3" Lift Ride Quality

How good of a ride do you get with a 3" Pro Comp lift? I'm looking to spend no more than $500 on a suspension lift I can install myself.

I'd go with a body lift but I heard the ride quality is pretty poor.

I don't do much off-roading, mostly highway/city driving.

Meh I wouldn't go Pro Comp. I would do 5100's at 2.5" and AAL. I am sure at 3" you will need new UCA's if you can't get your alignment back to spec. What size tires are you planning on running?

I'd like to run 265/70/17 or 265/75/17. no wider for gas mileage purposes.

 

I'd go with Bilstein 5100 front adjustable set at 2.5", longer AAL like Wheeler's or ToyTec and 5125's rear shocks.

 

What's the reason for your choices? I'm just starting to research this so I'm trying to learn as much as I can.

I have a 3'' ready lift above coil spacer and a 1'' block. rides the same as stock. or get a 2'' block if you like some rake. I bought mine on the forum for under $100. or new they are around $250 I believe.

 

You asked for ride quality. Bilstein are valved mono tube shocks, longer AAL rides better then the short Pro Comps or better then blocks. 2.5" vs 3" cause at 3" you will need to invest another $450 in new UCA's plus the size tires you are running. They already clear stock height so .5" difference isn't going to be major.

 

People just don't like procomp because they heard its a rough ride until it breaks in. Usually they have no actual experience with it haha.

But the 5100/5125 shocks and the aal are recommended because they give a good ride. But you won't get 3inches out of them.

If you want a full 3inch lift go with procomp I say. I have no experience with it, but I've read from people who actually have it the ride is not all that bad.

 

2.5" vs 3" is virtually nothing. I can make that up in tire size if I was concerned over 1/2" (not very).

if i get significantly better ride quality out of a 2.5" lift, i'd just go with that. Is there a kit that I can buy or do I need to piece it together?

Also, are there any maintenance issues with putting on a suspension lift vs. body lift (such as wearing stuff out faster because of the different geometry - like ball joints, axles, drive shaft, etc. ). Ideally I'd like to get a lift that has good ride quality and that won't stress and wear out/break other parts of the truck faster over time.

 

I think you have to piece it together. Some places may sell the shocks together. Shop around for a good price or maybe start a group buy since people are always wanting to buy this set up.

I'd run it at 2.5" so i dont have to get UCA's. are 5160 shocks worth the money? (see the option at the bottom of the link)

thats a good lift. but don't get the diff drop spacer. search the forum for more info on that
