ICON adjustable w/ UCA's. What and how???

Good day all. Please excuse my noobness. I bought my 08 PreRunner from a dealership in town and it already came with the ICON adjustable fronts and some kind of aftermarket UCA's. Does anyone know exactly what kind of lift (model #?) and UCA this is and how the hell do you work it?? I'm afraid to touch it because I don't want to throw anything out of wack. It sits pretty high in the front and I want to bring it down to level the truck.

You'll need an Icon spanner wrench to dial down the preload. You will need an alignment afterwards. A local off road shop or maybe a local member might have a wrench you could borrow.

If you're going down to stock height, you might even consider swapping in stock UCA's and selling off the aftermarket ones. Those are some expensive parts.

Good to know on the wrench. Thanks. But there's no way to keep the alignment myself? And I thought that's what the UCA's did? Anyway, I want to keep all of that on there just in case I want to lift the back sometime in the future.

No, anytime you alter the front end, even if you don't actually remove anything, you should have it aligned. By backing off the preload and making the truck sit lower, the UCA's and LCA's will not operate at a different angle. It's a good idea to have the alignment checked.

Plus, if you're going to lower the truck down, you should loosen the UCA and LCA bolts anyways, lower the truck, then retighten. This allows the rubber bushings to be at their 'neutral' position when the truck is at the new ride height.

Also, whenever I have to cut the wheel really hard or do a u-turn, a loud dull metal-on-metal sound comes from my front end. I imagine it has something to do with the UCA's? Maybe they weren't fitted properly??

Pretty sure they are total chaos uca's. There is only one way to install them. So it wouldnt be a fitment issue. My biggest guess for what you're hearing is the tires rubbing on something. You can get a spanner from downsouth motorsports. They are a vendor on this site. Spray the threads with a teflon lube before adjusting as they may be a bit frozen. The collars also have an allen set screw that you need to back out before you adjust them.

No spanner wrench needed. A couple 9mm allen wrenches or steel punches will work fine.

I know for a fact the tires do not rub, they don't even come close. It's a hard metallic "pop" sound. Can't figure it out. Oh well... nothing is broken yet.

Sway bar rubbing or cracked bushing.....may need to put some dry lube on the upper control arm uniball and some grease on the bushings?

That's some of the basic up keep on that type of suspension.

jack up the truck and make sure the UCA isnt hitting the coil spring one the bottom.. if it is just rotate the sprins a little so it clears
