OME 884/885 on Stock Shocks

Has anyone assembled a coilover consisting of 884/885 coils with the original stock shocks? Am I right in expecting the ride to be a little stiff since the stock SR5 shocks are valved for a 550 lb/in stock coil while the OME coils are 590 lb/in (right?).

This would just hold me over until I get Nitros, but I cant blow 300 on them at the moment.

I would also consider running 884's w/ top plate spacer since theyre slightly shorter than 885's in order to avoid over-extending the stock shocks.

Thoughts/experience?

 

Not sure about your question, but why not wait till you can collect all your lift components to install at the same time?

considering i'm buying lifetime alignments, and installing myself, the only thing i'm wasting is my own time. which i'm not overly concerned about - gives me an excuse to work on my truck

I ran my stock Bilsteins (with 150,000 miles) on my 885s when I first got them. The ride was not good at all because of the valving difference. I bought 5100s a week later. It felt a lot like some cars I've had in the past when I ran lowering springs on stock shocks.

Wait or buy the OME shocks or billies at the same time

lots of folks just choose the 5100's for the price point and think that since they are an upgrade over stock they will be fine.

If I was going to get OME coils I would get the OME shocks to match

 

Cost was my reason and I have no regrets. In addition I like the look of the aluminum body of the 5100 over the yellow of the OME, but that wasn't a deciding factor.
