I simply want to level my taco!

I have searched and read countless threads and have come to this conclusion about lifts/leveling -

Buy these front Bilstein adjustable 5100 shocks:

Take them to my local mechanic (he doesn't do lifts but said he would/could change out the shocks) for $348 plus $70 for an alignment. He would use the original coils that are on the truck now and I would have him set the front shocks at 1.75 - This is a brand new 2012 2wd pre-runner with sport package. Isn't this the simplest/best way to get my truck leveled and also improve the ride a little? No downsides except for being out $750? Thank you!

I bought 5100s for the front (set at .75) and it is almost level. 1.75 is supposedly about dead on.

If you want to get off cheap, I am still stock in the rear with no issues.

 

That's pretty steep for just 2 fronts built, installed and a one time alignment.

 

No need to replace the rears if you dont want to, the 5100s do not change the rear height of your truck. I have my fronts set at 1.75 and my truck is pretty much perfectly level, slight rake with any significant weight in the bed.

I currently still have the stock shocks on the rear but will hopefully be replacing them with 5100s in the near future.

 

That install price was for all 4 shocks. 4wheelparts quoted me about $70 less for the install but they are much further away rather then down the street for a 3-4 hour job. Also 4wheelparts were trying to talk me into getting their version of the 5100's for about the same price - they said the fronts had 2 adjustments 0 or 2.5. I said the 2.5 sounds like it would be too high in the front with leaving the back level. idk anybody hear of them? He said they came out in May. I'm leaning towards 4 new Bilstein 5100's, sounds like those are the safest bet without any issues.

 

Downsouth Motorsports used to give a discount to TW members and were great for customer service. I'm not sure if they still do this nor am I poopooing 4wheelparts as I've never dealt with them. Just saying.

The 5100s are a great way to lift your vehicle for a good price.

 

I had NTB do mine on the 05 AC. 2 fronts taken apart with coils used on 5100s, 5100s installed out back with AAL & 1 yr alignment and it was just over 325.00, not 425.00 for that and a one-time alignment. Just sayin, sounds a bit high but your deal your money your convenience factor.

 

Yes, but I'm trying not to do the 08 any higher. You're not helping, lol. And I know, I know, put them on 0 or .85 because the valving and ride is better than the TRDs. It is getting harder to ignore as I knock out other mods and the bug she still bites.

 

Get 5100's and set them at the stock setting and get OME 883 coils.

I know this goes against the title of my thread, but what do you guys think if I got the bilstein 5100's and set the front to the full 2.5 and the back to 1 inch? (I see the back are either set at 0 or 1) Would I have any problems with anything if I set it up this way? Right now my front is 1.5 inches lower than the back, so this setup would level me out and give me a 1 inch lift (or would this be considered a 2.5 inch lift?)

 

The rear 5100s aren't adjustable, the 0-1" simply means that model shock will fit a with up to a 1" lift.

 

Oh ok....I'm starting to get it now Thank you for that! So I would need to add a 1 inch block or a leaf or something to the rear in order to lift it an inch. Would this be considered a 1 inch lift or 2.5 inch lift since the front would go up 2.5 inches.....
