Shocks/Struts for stock 5 Lug

When I took my truck for the 100k maint/check up, the shop said I'll need new shock/struts within the next year.

I've got a stock 2002 5 lug. I'm not wanting to lift it, just replace the shock/struts and keep the stock ride height.

They quoted it at right around 600 bucks.

1. Does that estimate sound about right?
2. Would I be better off buying the shocks/struts on my own, then having the shop install them for me?
3. What shocks/struts would be recommended for my truck? (I don't do any offroading)

Sorry if I left out any vital information, I'm not real knowledgable about this kind of stuff, thus why I joined TW!!

Is that price including parts ? (I'm assuming yes) I'd say that price is ball park..

 

Yeah, the 600 is the estimate for parts/labor and everything.

 

1. Sounds about right.
2. Probably.
3. Bilsteins were a major improvement in ride quality for me. Till then I'd get a serious sore neck from just driving the damn thing.

 

What's the difference between billy 5100s and 4600s?

I always see people praising the 5100s on here, but all the sites I've checked make it seem like the 4600s are the right ones for my truck?

 

5100's are offroad shocks, to improve/lift 6 lugs. the 4600's may be whats needed for yours.
