Bilstein 5100 review

Ya see your lucky with the free shipping, that's what usually ruins it for us up in the north cause we get killed with shipping... Essex is a good choice for us in Canada but the 299.99 from DSM is a sweet deal..... But I have found a local guy near me CT Motorsports that deals with toytec and he beat DSM when u including shipping and me getting hit with duties and taxes he beat them by $10.00 which isn't much but shipping them here I don't know how to figure the exact duties ill get hit with so.. CT works out better unless something changes

I desperately need new shocks for my Taco sport. I need to keep my truck at stock height for work, will 5100's work on stock height?

 

Ya they will sit same as stock if u leave the ring at the bottom

Way, way, way better than stock. Mine are a year old now and I'm very pleased with them.

 

Im pretty new to leveling a tacoma, i've read nothing but good reviews on the 5100 series shocks. If i replaced my front shocks with the 5100's at 1.75", would that level the trucks out nicely? Or is there a rear AAL or 5100 set required to give it a better look? I dont haul anything heavy, the truck is just a daily driver and brings my kayaks to the lake.

 

I'm thinking of doing the same set up. Are you running stock uca's?

 

I just finished a big project on my 02 Prerunner Crew Cab. Having dealt with the axle wrap issue for years I decided to do something about it. I did the helper spring for a bit and the problem was solved but knew this was only a short term fix and did this until I could decide what I ultimately wanted to do. I decided to take a slightly less expensive route and opted for the Wheelers 3 leaf AAL pack. I removed the overload spring on the stock leaf pack and installed. The result was a 2" lift in the back (Wheelers claims 1.5" with this kit). My front struts were crappy after market assemblies and replaced those with Bilstein 5100's (from Wheelers and used stock springs) set on the middle setting. I replaced the back shocks with Rough Country N2.0's (also from Wheelers).

The truck now sits level with a measurement of 38" from the top center of each wheel well and the ride is definitely better. On regular roads I find myself exceeding the speed limit as it's more smooth and dirt roads are much, much better.

 

I just bought a 2002 4wd SR5 Tacoma. I wanna change worn out stock shocks and put on 5100 bilsteins. I want a little lift but don't want to destroy ride quality. What's a good lift height and will these shocks destroy ride quality. I will be doing no off-roading. And will I be fine using stock coils?! HELP

 

Has anyone tried this 5100's on all 4 with one setting up from stock paired with firestone ride rites & stock leaf springs???
I'm looking into this .. I do like the factory rake .. I get a tiny bit of rubbing with 265/75 R16 BF KM2's would like to take away the rubbing and have a nice ride on a regular day .. and pump up the bags when towing ..

 

Does it ride bumpy ?! I wanna do this to mine but I want a smooth factory ride

 

Have a stock Plain Jane 2010 Tacoma which I bought last year . Auto trans , 2 WD and everything real simple . I don't do any off rd, and use it mainly for work , which involves carrying about 500-600 lbs (includes myself , homemade hatch top and racks , and tools).
The ride is comfortable , but very soft and would like to stiffen it up . On semi- bumpy urban roads , potholes and bumps seem to be absorbed more in the frame than in the suspension, and it likes to sway on corners if taken at anything but low speeds . I believe everything on it is stock , and was wondering if the Bilstein 5100's might tighten everything up . Or , are there other approaches ?
