Pro Comp 3 inch

So I've read about every thread on this topic, and still am having difficulty deciding. Most of those threads haven't been updated in a while anyway So basically I like the look and price of the Pro Comp 3 inch suspension lift, but all these mixed reviews have me worrying. Anyone have any input on the subject? I'm open to suggestions, but I'm on a pretty tight budget

What's your budget? If you're that concerned you could always just wait and put some money away and save for an OME kit or kit with 5100's. I don't have any personal experience with the Pro Comp kit so I have no idea. I've just heard it rides more harsh than the other options.

 

Even with a front bumper it was stiff, if you cant wait for the next best option then your in for a rough ride. Good luck

 

Even though I'm pretty sure the answer is no, and I don't think it would be cost effective anyway, but could you run billy 5100s instead of the procomp shocks?

 

The pro comp coils are stiff, 700+ spring rate

 

I actually just put this lift on my truck a week ago....they ride is stiffer compared to stock....on road it handles good, it lifts the truck more than 3 inches so you will need ucas and a diff drop if you want flex i would not recomend it but it seems set up for absorbing hard impacts like jumping without bottoming out....i drove lots of lifted trucks and the ride is better than my cummins and powerstroke was

 

Gotcha, thanks for the feedback guys. I won't be doing too much offroading, just some hunting trails and such. I don't like the fact that I will need new uca's and a diff drop...I guess I'll just have to keep looking

 

since you have a prerunner have you looked into front knuckles and a rear add a leaf or leaf pack?

 

I'm sorry, by knuckles do you mean spindles?

Edit : just kidding just googled it and it doesn't look like spindles haha, still not sure what that is though

 

a knuckle lift lowers where the unit bearing is mounted there for adding lift....check out maxtrac suspension
and a knuckle is the piece mounted between the uca and lca that your wheel bearing is on

 

i have the procomp...couple years old..and i want to replace it...too rough..sucks offroad..

jars instead of absorbs...giving my truck rattles..

 

idk how I didnt notice OP was 2wd, Spindles are your best option

 

Is it right that since I have a 2wd I don't need a diff drop for my cv axles?

with a 2wd you dont have a front differential to drop so no drop kit is needed....i just took my truck out for a few minutes down a rough road......if you have a reall fat girlfriend who also has a pet potbellied pig to haul around procomp is the way to go, if you dont staart looking for new front coils like i am hah

Alright sounds good thanks for the info. If you end up getting rid of the pro comp, what lift are you thinking about upgrading to?

 

i will probally get some billys with ome 885 springs and a custom spring pack in the back.....im going to keep the procomp for a while or at least until i have my front bumper built witha 9000lb winch in it and see if the added weight help

 

Yeah that's what I would go with too I think. Seems like that's what most everyone on this forum has, and most seem to love it! I'll keep an eye out for those pictures once you get your tires and wheels all sorted out
