Rear Shock Bilistein Placement

Hey guys. I have finally gotten all my 3" kit parts ordered. I have my 2" AAL from toytec with rear 5125's and my front Toytec adjustable complete coilovers will be here Wednesday.

My question is for the rear 5125's. They have a bracket at the top of the shocks that I am not sure which way the install goes. Is the first picture correct or the second one?

 

And of course I didn't spell Bilstein correctly

 

Bilstien has a specific 5100's direct replacement for your truck - no stem/loop adapter needed. What you received was a generic 8.5" or 10" travel shock it looks like. The vehicle specific 5125's with the added length for lift have a stem top/bushing bottom from the factory. I would ask for those instead...!

The adapters tend to come loose after time and you dont know what valving you received with the universal 5100's

The shocks I got have 5125 on the shocks, but your saying i got the generic 5125's and not the model specific ones?

 

i just got my 5100s and they dont have that bracket.very easy to install.about 10 min a side.

 

I bought my 5125's from toytec, and mounted them like picture #2.

 

So the 5125's that Toytec sells are "generic" or "Vehicle specific"??

 

I called Toytec and said I wanted the 5125's for the rear. What you see in the pictures above from my 1st post is what they sent me. The shocks came in Bilstein boxes and have Bilstein 5125 etched in the shock. Not sure what that means but it says 5125 on the model on the shock itself.

 

It appear that what Downsouth Motorsports was conveying is that the 5125's that you receive are not specific to the Tacoma. If they were designed for the Tacoma they would not have the loop on the top of the shock, instead there would be a stem on the top of the shock. Valving is also more then likely not specific to your app.

As for the way to install the shock, you should install it as shown in the second picture. The geometry just wouldn't make sense if you installed the shock as shown in picture one. When the axle is moved upward, The shock would not be able change angle causing it to bind.

 

So do ya'll think i should send them back? Or will I be ok to go with what I bought?

 

Im running 5125's from toytec, they ride great, and perform awesome offroad.



The reason I went with these is because toytec specializes in toyota lifts. I am confident that they would sell me a shock that works good with the truck. And it does.

The 5125 series shocks are valved 255 over 70 and that is a universal valving and it will work fine....

i just got a set of Bilstein 5125 shocks for the rear. I also got the procomp eye to stem converstion kit. The problem i am having is the stud of the procomp converstion is 5/8th and my stock shock stud is 3/8th. My question is how do i get the converstion to fit??? Do i have to drill out the stud mount hole? Or did i just get the wrong converstion kit? Please some one help!!

 

Your 5125 tops do not look like mine in the pictures? I pulled the rubber bushings out of the top and the bolt went through. For mine it was a direct bolt.

 

no my 5125 tops look just like yours in the pic, but i didnt take off any rubber bushing. i just figured that since the stud of the converstion kit was so much bigger then the stud of the stock shock that it wouldnt fit. I will take a second look.

 

Yes the new threaded stud is much bigger than the stock one. However, the stock one runs through a rubber bushing and the rubber bushing is the same size as the new 5125 stud. Just remove the rubber bushing and the new 5125 stud fits perfect through the holes.
