As far as ride , its going to be firmer with either one, personally I'd go with the linear type spring & avoid the progressives

Personally, I'd go with a 4 link and remove leafs all together

Why would you go with linear? I'm just curious.

Because you get equal spring compression without the cycling of "thinner to thicker" progressive springs upon spring compression (impact)

Plus I'm running a 6 leaf progressive pack & don't like the ride much, its not harsh but it is choppy (goes back to that repetitive cycling of dissimular springs)

Hmm thanks for the input. I keep reading good things about progressive springs. In my case in particular its what toytec offers vs the icon progressive aal. They offer a 1.5 to 2" single aal? Now that's a substantial single leaf that I would think would make for one stiff ride. That or it it's a leaf and a block... I think I'm going progressive... I only have 2 leafs and the ol. I think adding a few more for lift while improving ride quality is just what I need. When I hit good bumps and my rear suspension cycles and hits that overload it feels like I bottom out it's so stiff.

Interesting. I'm actually a huge fan of the progressive AAL although I'm sure we have much different uses for our trucks. It seems to flex really well and the on road ride is nice. I don't know as if the whole leaf pack could be called a true progressive though because the stock leaf pack isn't progressive (as opposed to your 6 leaf progressive leaf pack). FWIW, I actually don't like the ride of the progressive coils from a stock TRD Off Road and prefer the linear rate SR5 or TRD Sport coils. :notsure:

Yes, the hardware that came with the Icon AAL was plenty long enough.

Most people are fans of progressives, myself included (yet I bitch about them ), let me explain, if a progressive spring is done correctly they're probably the best spring you'll ever ride on, problem is no single manufacturer really does them right, oh they may seem right (anything better than stock right ) but they're just generically configured, not saying they just use random thickness's of thicker-to-thinner springs just saying that its not cost efficient for them to do all the R&D work it takes for vehicle specific applications, I've had 1 progressive leafset custom made for my '72 Dodge Power Wagon from National Spring & it was almost $1000.00 (in 1970 $dollars) A custom true progressive for my 1st gen thru them starts at $1200, already checked into it...:eek: thats alot of $$ for springs

If I had to do it again, when I got the AAL's new, I'd sand them to rough them up, paint them with rusoleum and call it a day. The coating Icon put on them obviously didn't cut it.

Even with all that rust though, they're still quiet :)

Yep, good 'ol rustoleum , they used to make a blend they called "heavy black", it didn't come in a spray form, it was applied with either a brush or you could rag it on (cloth, like applying stain) that shit was awesome !!. I still have about 1/2 a quart somewhere, it took awhile to dry/cure but well worth it.....

I might have to look into that. As you can see, mine need some attention and I'd rather not spray them given the location.

Sorry, I know this is an old thread - Just proof I use the search function I guess.

What is the difference between the available progressive AAL's? I'm looking to add a 3 leaf progressive AAL, and see them available from HS, Icon, Wheeler's, Toytec, etc. etc.

Is there anything more than price different between them? :notsure:
