Uh Oh I am too high now. What to do?

Hi,

I recently installed the OME kit on my DCLB. I knew the OME kit would lift it about 2 to 3 inches and that was no problem. Problem is I did not take into consideration that the truck was already sagging down so in reality I would get about 5 inches from where I was.

Problem is the lift is way too high now. Truck handles like a dream but for work purposes it is a pain in the ass...

Any suggestions about something I can do to lower it? I needs to be somewhat cost effective and ride effective as I don't want a harsh ride. The kit does not have even 1.5k miles yet, but I do not have the old one since it was really bad and I recycled it.

I thought about selling it and buying a new one, maybe even a X-Runner, but I just bought another car, so I do not really want more payments.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated as this is affecting my work a bit.

As a side note:

If I do keep this setup how it is, Ill be putting on 33s. If I searched right, I should not have to trim anything right?

 

Right now I have 32s. I had that with the stock suspension. Riding on 18 inch wheels. If I go for 33s it will be because I decided to stay this high, since the fenders look a bit empty. I would of course not get 33s if I went lower.

Spacers? I never had any spacers and I did not order the trim packer thing since my truck has always been leveled. Currently no spacers are in my truck.

If I removed the 3rd leaf in the dakars, would I lose a lot of weight capability in this back? Ride quality? Also, how would I do something to the front to match what I do in the back?

 

If it was sagging and you wanted it a little higher, why not just replace the stock springs? If you want the adjustability get coilovers. What kind of work do you use the truck for?

 

It was sagging. Also with all the bad stories and my personal experience with stock leafs I did not want to risk it.

Coilovers would mean replacing the front suspension right? I mean what we have are coilovers if I am not wrong, I guess you mean like billie 5100s?


I often carry pool supplies and construction materials in my truck.

 

Interesting. That will be a pain. Do you have aftermarket UCA's? I think I might need... Hopefully I wont.

What is your hub to fender measurements ?

 

Dont know, guess I am just used to seeing fenders being a bit more filled.

I have 885s, would 884s really do much diference? I do not have any aftermarket bumper nor do I plan on installing one.

Technically what we have are struts. A coilover usually refers to an adjustable performance strut. A Bilstein is not what I was talking about. That is a good option for the front. If you go billies and eibach springs on .85, that is 3" lift. You would need to run an uca at that point that is adj. If you haul a lot of weight often run TSB springs if you aren't already. That will keep your load capacity up and give a slight lift over the non-TSB springs. AP makes a nice leaf pack for hauling weight also. 3" lift over stock, I think they rate it for 1000lbs.

 

If I am not wrong... It is 23 inches in the front and 25 inches in the back.

 

Guess that would mean completely taking out the OME kit. Ouch.

 

There are lot of way you can fix though. Play with tire sizes to get it right also. Like they said before run a 31.7" AT tire. It looks good on these trucks. You won't have to cut anything either to get them to fit.

Yeah. It is what they advertise. Problem is I made a mistake. I thought about the 2-3 inches from what I had, which was well below stock since I was sagging everywhere. It was my oops moments.

 

Is the problem mainly getting into the box ?

 

Well, yes and no. For example, I put on some steps on the truck and they help. Some people are having trouble getting in.

Biggest problem is the bed is so damn high now, that putting in and taking out 100LB pails is a pain in the ass. Also getting materials from pails in the box is doable, but it is uncomfortable.

 

You could remove one of the overload leafs.

 

Well , you have 2" of rake to play with , if you want to stick with the Dakars you could remove the 3rd leaf down from the top and the upper overload , this would drop you around 1 1/4"
