Old TSB leaf pack still good? Stock height replacement?

Just as the title states. Is this TSB leaf pack still any good?

It does not have a negative arch really, but seems quite flat to me. Is that how its supposed to be? I mostly see pictures of lifted trucks here on TW with leafs arched and built to give lift so it is hard for me to compare.

To be honest, I was never really impressed with how much the truck sagged with a few hundred pounds in the bed and always wondered if the leaf pack was close to shot.

Either way, what would be a good replacement leaf pack, even if not now, but down the road that will not give any lift. Would like to keep the truck stock height for now. I would most likely buy a set of four 5100 at that time. Wheelers HD 5 leaf pack made by Alcan? Other options? Thanks.

Seem like it does suck, at least that is my impression of it, just not sure how accurate my evaluation is as I have not driven any other Tacomas, just 1/2 tons and 3/4 tons and that is apples to oranges.

What I mean is:

Is my leaf pack shot? Therefore the disappointing performance?

Or is my pack actually in alright shape, but TSB leafs just plain suck?


As for , my understanding is, it gives roughly the same height as TSB springs do, therefore a supposedly better replacement than stock for someone not wanting to lift?

 

The 4 leaf pack will die if you haul anything regularily in the bed

300lb toolbox in the bed of my truck for 6 months took about 1 1/4" of height from my stock pack

 

I don't haul anything regularly in the bed, but I do still use the truck for truck duties occasionally.

Last time I had camping gear for 4 adults in the bed and truck hit bump stops crossing the railway tracks or going through a dip in the road.

Had a set of four tires mounted on wheels in the bed and truck sagged quite a bit. Basically just about anything more than 300-400lbs and it shows. Does not give a whole lot of confidence carrying up to payload spec.

Did yours look in better shape before you replaced them with Dakars?

 

Yea, I've had mine on for a good year and a half...springs are pretty much flat at this point, I can bounce on my bumper and feel the rear end slam the bump stops. Can't wait to install my AP expo pack...

 

Considering truck was originally purchased in October of 06, I've had mine for almost 7 years. (Canadian Tacoma).

Those All Pro packs all give around 3" of lift correct?

 

Standard is 3", expo is 4" and need several hundred pounds of weight

Honestly. Even the TSB leaves blow. I heard about the TSB on here, and after throwing my bike in the bike a couple times and riding the bumpstops, I went to the dealer...the only change I noticed was i got about 1" of free lift in the back, for about a year...and my bed slammed the bumpstops more...instead of just sitting on them, when I had my bike in the back.

Right now? They are flat. I step up on my bumper and jump up and down and slam the bed against the bump stop. that's with my toolbox in...maybe 100 lbs tops.

The TSB leaves are great if you plan on never having any weight in the back. Probably best if you don't put anything in your backseat...let alone 2-3 adults in the back.

 

Well, I think I will look more into replacement leaf packs now.

Suggestions for aftermarket packs that don't lift the truck are very welcome. I would like to stay around the TSB pack height when new and not sagged yet.

So far I found Wheelers HD 5 leaf pack that is hopefully heavier duty while not giving any more lift than stock. Not exactly cheap though.

U should see some stock 3 packs, mine is always arched backwards, even whe not loaded!

 

I loved my firestone ride rites when I had them on my tsb springs, lower em down when unloaded, fill em up when towing or loaded, just need a ob compressor, not a necessity but makes u look a lot cooler when u don't have to use a bike pump to fill em up lol
