I know that there different brands but I would some times come across treads when people would talk about the socks. What are they designed intentions?

fox has progressive and icon has digressive valving.
progressive is firmer the harder you push them, digressive is softer the faster you push them.
    both are quality shocks.

IMO icons makes superior midtravel, but fox is a very good company too. Speaking from personal experience with icon, I'm running full icon front and rear and the front has handled some very haggard stuff off road. They ride like a dream on the road too.
    Midtravel: icon
Long travel: king or fox

i love my icon 2.5 coilovers up front. have unexpectedly run into whoops at speeds that would have otherwise been painful if still running the 5100's i used to have
