Bilstein 5100 adjustable paired with EIBACH 3" lift coils spring

I went into 4wheel parts today to ask if they would install my new suspension that I ordered online. They thought about it and after asking what I was getting they said no. Their reason...

He said that the Bilstein 5100 adjustable isn't long enough to be paired with the EIBACH 3" lift coil spring. The reason he gave was that "no matter where you set the height of the Bilstein that it would be preloaded. Basically he was telling me that the Bilstein 5100 adjustable and the 3"lift EIBACH coil spring is not a good pair. I told him that I've read plenty people who have this set up and are happy with it.

Can anyone tell me for sure if the 2 will work together. If not can you explain why? And if they will work fine, can you explain why?

My other thought was, since 4 wheel parts works mostly on jeeps, and how some jeeps have the shock and spring separate. Maybe he thought that was the same scenario on my truck. I'm not sure just taking a guess.

I would just tell him you don't care about the pre-load. The eibachs are designed specifically for the 5100's so it will work. For 1st gens you get 3" out of them with the 5100's set at 0 don't you?

If he knows enough to think they aren't a good pair he probably already knows that Tacomas run Coilovers instead of separate shocks and springs, maybe anyway. Wouldn't hurt to throw the word coilover around I guess.

 

i have them and they work fine,there a little stiff which is is gonna happen, i havent had any issues with alignment but i also have light racing ucs's, just make sure there set at the lowest setting on the 5100's

 

I've heard many people say they are a good pair, especially on our trucks. So I'm gonna take the word of all the people who have experienced this combo.

Since you have the same set up I ordered, what size tires are you running? Do u know what would be the biggest that would fit with this suspension? I'm wanting 255/85/16 bfg km2. They are a little narrower than the stock 265/70/16 but they are much taller, about the height of a 33" tire. Let me know what you think or experienced. Thank!!!!!!!

 

Not sure about fitment, (I'll bet they will with a little trimming though) but that is the exact size and tire I am running and they rock!

What size lift r u running?

 

Like 2-3". Not really sure exactly because mine was already kind of lifted when I bought it. It has all settled some too with all the armor I have added as well.

 

4WP does not want to install equipment that you did not order from them.....that's what it boils down to.

 

Well hopefully at worst all I'll have to do is trim a little. Wonder if spacers may help? You running any spacers?

Nope. 4.5" backspaced 16x8" wheels. I wouldn't run spacers, they will just make the rubbing worse on the wheelwells and such. Spacers help get your tires off of your frame but that shouldn't be an issue with 33's really.

 

Oh I c. So it rubs on the wheel well. So putting spacers would push them out and make it worse. Thanks for the help! It's reassuring

 

Awesome I had no idea! I'll be giving him a call. I ordered my Bilsteins on all 4 corners, eibach coils, and new OME 2.25" lift leaf spring pack. I'll give him a holler, I do have some questions. Thanks!

 

Yep. For on road driving I had to trim just a little bit of plastic here and there. Didn't take much really. But 1st gens and 2nd gens can be like apples and oranges sometimes. I believe Blackdawg is running 5100's with the Eibachs and he fit 33x12.50 even with spacers so I imagine you will be fine.

 

im running 285/75/16 i had to run a 1" wheel spacer to clear the UCA but other than that no major trimming just plastics and hammer the pinch weld flat, with your skinner tires i bet they will fit good without a spacer

Only reason so,done would recommend it is cause our trucks don't like 3" of lift period. If makes the cv boots rub and then bust down the road.

I do have wheel spacers to help keep my 12.5s off the UCAs and frame. But it puts the tire into fenders more so you have to trim there more.
