I am looking to upgrade my front suspension and looking for suggestions:

    I purchased her with a 285/70 R17 and a 2.5" tough country lift. Trish is a 09 AC 6 lug.

When I put new duratracs on her i noticed more tire rub. I proceeded to at an Allpro Apex front bumper with center and headlight hoops and the IFS skid plate... that didnt help.

I am happy with the ride height but im looking to drop the tire rub. I have moved from Oregon to the DC Metro area so its mostly mall crawing but I still enjoy slinging some mud when I go home to upstate NY. i am tempted to scale down to some pizza slicers but I feel like that's treating the symptoms and not the problem.

My question is go with an adjustable ride height setup or keep the OEM with the current font end spacer lift and go with a heavier duty front end shock.

Like I said, my days are browns camp and sand lake are over  but I want to have a functional vehicle for the curbs at NASA.

You need a stiffer front spring. I'd look at 600lb springs with your extra front end weight.

Just trim what it's rubbing. You should be able to see where it's contacting the plastic fender liners. Trim with a blade and keep doing that until it stops. Worst case scenario, you're rubbing the cab mounts and or pinch weld and that can be adjusted by increasing castor on alignment or trimming those too (sawzall and Big Fucking Hammer!). Search, most of us have all done it and it's fairly easy.

I guess I'm mentally struggling with changing 2-3 variables at the same time, while I'm still learning about the topic.

Are the 886 a direct replacement for the factory springs?... so would I be able to swap them out for the stock factory springs and use the same spacer?

I guess the same question would apply to the shocks too... replace with factory spec?

About the trimming... I think the tire rub is a symptom and not the bigger issue. I'm gonna look into how much more clearance I need on the mudflaps.

Thanks again for all of your help!

If you still like your ride height and the tire rub is the issue, I'd start there. A tire that size will not fit without trimming, it's just too big. If you plan on going offroad you'll realize that a 33" tire does not fit in there with the stock mud flaps and all the plastic they put in the wheel well. It's not about lift, it's about fitting the tire in that space.

Also, you do not want to "stack lifts" if you switch out springs/shocks you'll want to ditch that spacer. Check out Wheelers offroad website (they're in OR). Personally, I think the eibach/5100 combo would be better. Toytec lifts will prob have better lift info though!

886's aren't a direct replacement. They are a 3 inch lift coil meant for 230lbs+ additional front weight and should only be used with OME shocks. Not gonna work on factory shocks unless you want to blow them into pieces.

You should pull the OEM shock, coil and that spacer out and do a full OME setup or a coilover of some kind.
