I recently got new tires (265/75/16s) on stock suspension and now exploring the idea of getting a lift. I am very ignorant and in the dark when it comes to lifts. What lift would be recommended for this tire size without it looking silly/having to upgrade tire size. Thanks.

If you mainly drive on road and hardly off road, I recommend you just get Bilsteins 5100. You can either set it at .85" or 1.75" to level the front. You'll get better shocks, ride and handling for about $300.

Depends from shop to shop. Some shops will charge $25-$100 per shock on the front to just do your coils. Depending on your location, maybe someone can just help you install them. I've done a several of these already and gets easier and faster each time. Search youtube for 5100 tacoma install so you get the idea of the work involved. The rears are just bolt on and off if you're not installing an add a leaf.

Would a 3" lift work? If so, what is the best kit to get without getting overly expensive but isn't a piece of crap?

You're welcome. This site will be a drain on your wallet. Also if you go above 2" of lift, you should consider buying aftermarket control arms to get good alignment numbers. That's another $400-$700 expense.

You would need a higher rated shock to run those coils, like the OME shocks or bilstens. You'd also need extended shocks in the rear with those add a leafs.

You can get a set of the bilstens 5100s for about 300 from downsouthmotorsports and, as someone else pointed out, it'd be wise to get new ucas.

Well, that one is for first generation Tacomas, up through 2004. Either way, I would stay away from strut spacers and blocks. It'll make for an unpleasant ride. Are you set on getting 3 inches of lift? Since you want to go the cheap route, the bilsten adjustables would be your best bet.
    http://downsouthmotorsports.com/i-1...le-shocks-05-2013-w-optional-rear-shocks.html

You can set them for up to 2.5'' of lift. And you can pick up an add a leaf from toytec for another 75-80 dollars. You'll be getting off under 400 dollars.

so if I get 2 front bilstein 5100s and add a leaf for the back, that's all I would need? No new coil or brake lines etc?

If you plan on lifting the back via the aal you would need the rear bilstens also. New U bolts with your aal would be a good idea also. You can use your stock coils and you don't need extended brake lines for this little of lift.

From what I have read on this forum, it seems that it would be ok to just add a leaf with out having to get rear billy's? Is this not the case?

You CAN use your stock shocks (just like you CAN run a 3 inch lift without aftermarket ucas), but they aren't made for the extra travel and you are at risk for eventually blowing up one of your shocks. It's only an extra hundred bucks for the rear shocks (DSMS cuts you a break when you buy the entire set), so I would get them to be safe.
