    Hey tw,

So I have this noise what sounds like a metal on metal creak type noise like something is hitting. It happens only when hitting a speed bump or a dip at a relatively lower speed, not sure what exact speed though. I already racked it up yesterday and made sure upper/lower control arm bolts were tight along with the other suspension components. I have a bilstein 5100 set at 2.5" with a 1/4" top plate spacer on both sides. I removed my sway bar and this noise only started happening recently. The truck has almost 20,000 miles. Any help would be appreciated. The noise does sound like the noise tacomas make when the lower control arm bolts are not tight enough. That's why I checked my suspensions components. Thanks again.

Oh and once it happens if I reverse over the speed bump and go back over...nothing happens.

Top plate spacer isn't tight in there. No fault of your own, just how they fit.

Hmm didn't think about that. I'm sitting here at my in laws in SoCal and that's all I can think about. We brought the taco down here and I was hoping it would magically go away, but no. As soon as we exit the freeway mad hit a dip, there it was. Taunting me.

Do you think this could cause the noise I'm hearing?

Well looks like that was the noise. I replaced the passenger lower control arm, drove it over the speed bumps out to the street and nothing.

The noise never went away over the last couple years and finally on Saturday, after a coworker pointed out the noise on the way to lunch friday, i took the passenger side suspension apart and thoroughly looked over everything. The only thing that drew my attention was that bushing. I was able to get both lower control arms covered under warranty and I just installed the passenger side today, the driver side is still en route. I put everything back together, torqued the control arm bolts to 100 ft lbs, and no noise. Prior to this I really had to tighten the control arm bolts to well over 100 just to make it quiet. If I torqued it to spec the noise was way worse. Now that I found the source I feel like I should of caught it earlier. Anyway I hope this helps someone in the future.

Did you take it in to the dealer pulled apart like that? If so, awesome they hooked you up like that.

I work at a dealer, my manager had to call the rep to get them covered under warranty though.

Damn. I've thought about doing mine at some point. But I'll probably just do bushings in a few years.

Well turns out it wasn't the LCA's. It was the shock. I used a chassis ear and the noise was so loud on the pass shock stem. Replaced them both, no noise whatsoever. It's been about a month now and all is good!
