I am new to the Toyota world of lifts etc. I can't figure out what TSB is. I want to lift my 02 tacoma 2" or 3 " I don't off road seriously, Like rock crawling or anything. I do use it hunting, fishing, etc. where the roads ends and then some and in deep snow here Minnesota (I guess it's more like deep snow drifts). I also haul a small camper trailer ( 3,000 lbs). what is a solid but afordable lift set-up?

I noticed when I measured the height of the rear compared to the front they were almost equal from what I've read here there is supposed to be some rake in the rearis that because of sag and is that what the tsb is supposed to fix?

to add to that. they are issues that are not going to cause you to reck or truck to catch on fire and so on. TSB is not just the suspension either.

Thanks for the info guys, even if it does me no good, I'm out of warranty so I guess maybe some new leaf springs are in order as well as adjustable coilovers. I read something about Donahoe racing coil overs, are they any different than the 5100 bils?

Technical Service Bullitons are issued by ALL auto companies. They are issued to dealers and not typically public knowledge. They inform the dealer how to repair or replace something that was improperly or poorly designed.

It's not a recall and dealers are NOT required to perform the repair. It is only done when covered by factory warranty.

Finally, you have a 2002 and do not have the spring pack associated with the TSB that is heavily discussed on this board. The rear leaf springs in the 2005-2009 trucks has a reduced payload capacity and the truck bottoms out when loaded. Your truck will not have these issues.

I'm not sure what to recommend to lift a 1st generation truck. I'm sure others will chime in. If not, post in the 1st gen forum.

    Not yet,
Ok, let's see if I understand correctly. My truck has the sticker in the door jam that says the payload capacity has been reduced. Does that mean my truck is affected by the tsb and I can have them change the springs for free?

    ...sigh...

First off, your truck is not "affected" by the TSB or anything else for that matter. It was build with a softer spring pack that allowed for a softer ride (apparently that is preferred in the US). If you load your truck with any sizable weight (500+#), you may experience a rougher ride and may bottom out the suspension on bumps.

If this is a problem for you, report the problem to your dealer. They will check with Toyota who will decide if the TSB should be performed on your truck. Some have gotten the work performed, the majority have been declined. The 2009's are not included in the TSB - YET. It is only for 2005-2008; that is why it is hit or miss for the 09's.

Hope that helps. If not, do a search or look through the first 2 pages of the 2nd gen forum and you will find your answers.

Thanks for the info. I had seven 80lb bags of concrete mix and about eight 2x6's in the bed the other day. I did not bottom out (I was on perfectly paved roads from Lowes back to the house) but I was suprised at how much "looser" the truck felt with just that in it. I was dissapointed but now I understand what the issue was.
