Was trying to figure how the top/upper half of the ball joint is attached to the upper control arm. I was thinking if it was a pressfit that if you smacked the bottom of the bolt to free it up from the spindle hole, that it could dislodge it from the upper arm.

You shouldnt have to disconnect the tie rod. Just the sway bar.

    I bought my 07 4x4 DC used w/ a RevTek 3" spacer kit w/ rear blocks.

I replace the rear w/ AAL a while back and finally got around to ordering 5100's for the front.

Here's where I get confused. I removed the spacer (2.5" black spacer) and the 1/4" ring which come in the kit. I also noticed that there was no rubber "isolator" between the spring and the mounting plate.

I just now realized this but a couple weeks ago I reinstalled the 5100's at 2.5" without a rubber isolator. I then got some rubbing on the driver's side fender which I trimmed (just a little). This obviously meant the geometry had changed a bit... truck looked a tiny bit lower. 3" vs. 2.5".

I got the truck aligned and then got new tires right after since I needed them (lot more tread since old ones were work out... 285/17/70 BF AT's). Got the truck realigned for free when tires went on.

I drove home to find out that I was getting major rubbing on the fender trip and on the cab mounts with the new tires, which I never had before. I went ahead and did the cab mount chop since I had been meaning to do it anyway. Not sure if the rubbing was due only to new tires or new shocks/tires.

All in all my issues are that I don't see a rubber "isolator" and I seem to be riding a little bit lower. Almost 23" hub to fender.

Should I get 1/4" spacer ring to bump it back up to 3" or not worry about it? Should I worry about not having a rubber isolator? I see installs with them and some without. The Hanes manual doesn't show it at all...

Sorry for the long post... thoughts?

Probably a dumb q, but here goes... I have the OME 3" lift and TC UCAs, and am going to attempt the install today. The question is on sequence. Is it:

    1. Pull old shock/coilover
    2. Pull old UCA
    3. Install new UCA
    4. Install new shock/coilover

Thanks this is very helpful. Looks like I'll need a spring compressor to remove the spring/shock assembly before I swap the shocks, right?

So I get that just adding spacers can damage things if you bottom out the LCA. Other than than, the same stresses on the ball joints and CV joints apply when doing the bilstein 5100 mod. as with a spacer mod. correct? Also why is a transfer case spacer kit to lower the case and reduce the angles on the CV joints a bad idea? I ask you because I trust your opinion on these matters. thanx

Yes, the 5100's preload the spring just like a pre load spacer does, but the 5100's are valved for the higher spring rate, which gives a little better ride.

tranfer case "spacers" to bring the case down and reduce the cv joint angle that was increased when lifting? I just think of spacers and shims as the same thing.
