Lower ball joint install

Quick question TW wizards...I'm swapping the upper and lower ball joints on my son's 2001 Tacoma 4x4. I have the spindles out and a friend is gonna press the old uppers out and new ones in for me. My question is: I'd like to install the lower ball joints on my workbench rather than working on my back. I don't see any reason why I couldn't do so and then put the spindle back in. What do you think??? I just don't want to have to do anything twice! As it is, I broke two bolts when trying to swap the lower ball joints. You guys that live out on the west coast or in the warmer, drier areas don't get to have the fun of working with hopelessly rusted parts. It's a treat!

 

I did mine while on jack stands. It's 4 bolts and took little time. Personally I'd avoid the extra work, but I'm in tx. No rust on my truck.

 

From what I remember I'm sure you can install it while you have the spindle off the truck. It's a simple job since the lowers don't need to be pressed in or out. Either way you decide to put the lowers on I don't think you'll have a tough time. Then again, I too am in Texas and rust isn't an issue.

 

Since the Spindel is already off the truck you can easily install the ball joint on to it now. Then the ball joint stud just slips into the lower control arm when it's on the truck.

 

Thank you all. Truck's back together with new uppers and lowers. The lowers were easy to install on the workbench and everything went back together smoothly. Front end is MUCH tighter now!

I'm envious of you TX folks with your big steaks and no rust! I ended up with four broken bolts all together. Winter sure takes it's toll up here.

 

I'll trade you a big steak for a place to go wheeling that isn't mud or flat...

Moe is in Austin and at least is near hill country...

 

Haha I am near the hill country and there are some good spots but nothing like those Utah guys
