Lift/Suspension Parts Replacment Question

I have a 2001 2WD Double Cab Prerunner with 126,000 and ordering the partsto lift my truck and to replace worn out suspension parts this week

I am getting Bilstein 5100 set at 2.5 in the front with Front shockreplacement bushing/washer kit from Toytec. For the rear I am using a 1"block with new u bolts and going to replace the shock with something off RockAuto. I don't want to get too far into the rear suspension because I have a badright leaf spring (I THINK) and don't want to fork out the money for new leafsand the problem not be a leaf. I bought this used in 2006 and never had any alignmentissues.

As for the rest of these suspension parts I think I have everything. I amreplacing these because the last time I had my truck aligned the guy said minewere worn out and needed to be replaced before I came back in.

Getting all this off Rock Auto.

Watched a YouTube video of a guy who changed out both lower ball joints andthe tie rod ends and he did not use a press. I am going with the assumption Idon't need a press but will need to rent a puller from a local auto store.

I'm in the military and lucky for me a friend has done the Bilstein changeout on his Tundra and put a block in the rear. Hoping between the 2 of us, YouTube,and the tacomaworld forum it will all be smooth sailing. HA!!

If anyone sees something else I should replace while I’m under there or I’mforgetting something I’ll need to install these items please post up.

Time for me to start looking for parts!!!!

 

I would recommend oem lower ball joints. That is an area not to cut any corners with our trucks. Also make sure the 4 bolts are torqued correctly when installing LBJ. I would only use oem for all suspension changes but for tie rods ends and upper ball joints moog is a decent brand.

 

OK so it looks like I'm going to order my UBJ and LBJ from ToyotaOverstock.com and total looks like $287. I don't want to work about these goingout on me. The TRE's I'm going to go with the MOOG unless someone can give me alink to bad ones.

It seems cheaper to go through this website than through my local dealer. Anyoneever use these guys?

Can anyone recommend rear shocks other than Bilsteins?

 

I'm replying here because I missed this in the bs thread. I have trouble keeping up in there sometimes.

According to the spring refurbish thread 1 leaf is usually 1" lift. Of course that always depends on arch of added leaf. It is a little bit of a guess regardless but you can always add or remove leafs as necessary.

I have eibachs and love them but I do have a homemade bumper. There is a thread in the 1st gen section of pics with eibachs and plenty of trucks without aftermarket bumpers. I'd ask there for opinions with that set up. You could always look into OME Springs with the 5100s also. Do you have standard or the progressive TRD coils up front? You're welcome to come to North Houston and go for a ride also.

 

If I put the new coils on how much do I need to come up in the rear and do I need a different shock in the back too??

 

Sorry for the late reply, been busy today. With Eibachs up front you'd definitely need a longer rear shock to get the back up enough to match. My Auto Zones are more then adequate. My mutt leaf pack has left the truck almost perfectly level. I'd almost like another .5-1" more lift in the back personally. It may be a little rough though when you get that much arch. You may even be looking into add a leafs and a shackle lift to get there and keep the leaf pack from getting to thick and rough.
