Hey guys I picked up a set of Icon 2.5's for my 4runner last week. I am expecting a Shrockworks steel bumper any day now. I'm sending the icons in for a rebuild this week and I want to know if it's worth getting the 700 LB springs. I have heard a few different opinions on the subject and I am just looking for a few more. Is it worth the etxra ~200-250 bucks to have icon throw on some 700 LB springs while they are there anyway? Will I regret 650's? I have no sway bar in the front and don't plan on adding a winch ATM with the bumper, but maybe down the road. Will there be an aggressive amount of preload on the 650's and my truck will ride like the axle is welded to the frame?

700 sound too stiff unless you are running heavy armor, OEM kits are 600-650#.

i have ext travel icons and with my bumper it was preloaded too much so i kept my 650 spring weight but went with a 1" longer king spring ( only company i found that made the size i needed) and that put me back to almost zero preload with the same ride comfort.
I also have full skids and sliders.

I have ~670lb springs. I also have a full set of ATO skids (1/4" front), sliders, front and rear steel bumper and winch adding weight and the system is just about right (OME). 700lb springs with a steel bumper won't be too bad on a 4-runner. I ran my springs before I put on a winch and it was stiff but not jarring.

I don't own a 4 runner however, the front ends between 4runner/tacoma are very similar. My trucks rides like glass with the C/O's cranked up to 3" with my hybrid bumper (90lbs or so) weighing it down. A lot of the responses are going to be opinion based because I love the way my truck drives but others might think it rides stiff vise versa.

Interesting, thanks for the feedback - I read through the 700 lb thread too.

Big difference is that I have the v8 and the bumper I'm getting is a full 3/16th plate bumper it's like 140 lbs + front skid which is like 50 and maybe eventually a winch. The lomger 650 is an option too. IDK why icon uses a 13" coil, pretty lame.

Anyone have pics of their preload with bumpers?

@bigtaco06 what cos are you running and have any pics of the preload?

I run Icons my friend, and as far as pictures I would go snap you one but I'm in Afghanistan. I think I have turned the load collars at least 7 to 8 times by time it was all said and done with the bumper and all of the settling. Also, I don't run a sway bar so I think that helps with a smother ride. I really think with all that added weight you should try the 700 pound coil. Thats a solid 250+ pounds on that frond end. It's a hard call, I know cause you don't want it riding like a tank. Maybe call and ask talk to ICON or Down South Motor Sports Both are really helpful.

The Best I can do is direct you to my thread and you can get an idea with the pics I have.
