I anticipate getting a new RC 4x4 in the next few months, so I'm trying to plan the mods. Anyway, I'd like to run the stock coils with 5100s set at 1.75" and a 1/4" top plate spacer to give slightly more than 2" of lift. I don't want to go to the 2.5" setting on the shocks because I think that's too much pre-load on the coils.

    Thoughts??

I would ditch the spacer. But 5100 with stock springs are ok. A lot of people have that set up including me

Well, I know top plate spacers are a bad idea (been there done that), but you think a 1/4 top spacer will cause problems??

Probably not. I don't have any experience with them

Price issues on getting new springs? 885's @ 0 on 5100's will get you, wait, 4 banger, I'm not sure now. Someone will chime in here that knows.

No, no price issues. I had the 5100s set at 1.75 on my 08 and liked the way it rode and handled. I just wanted a little more lift without preloading the springs any more. If there is a better way to get 2-2.5" of lift on a RC 4cyl with good highway manners and good washboard road handling, then I'm all for it.

If you did it once and liked it, there's no reason what you suggested won't work. The 1/4" top plates won't cause any problems, just make sure the shock studs are long enough to go through the top plates and still have enough thread exposed to tighten down.

You could get to a similar amount of lift using aftermarket coils and no preload but if you liked what you had before, no reason to spend more money. OME 883 or 884 coils would get you the lift you're looking for if you're interested in changing the coils out.

I just had this exact setup installed a few weeks ago on my DCLB. . I actually prefer the ride after having the lift and spacer installed. I also added a Wheeler's 1.5inch AAL to my TSB spring pack in the rear. I wasn't able to get before and after measurements but the bilsteins set at 1.75 with the 1/4 inch spacer is supposed to give you 2.25inches of lift. I'm very happy with the end result.
