When I asked our local shop about the wheels he said...

    We typically run a 8.5 or 9 wide aftermarket wheel with a 4.5 or 5 "
backspacing, and then we usually run either a 265-70-17 or a 285-70-17 based on how far the rim comes out and the total inches gained from the lift kit.

It sounds to me that this would either stick out too far for me or have rubbing issues.

I would go with a 16 inch rim and more side wall on the tire. But that is just my opinion. I don't know if most 265 tires would even fit on a 9 inch rim. I could be wrong, but most 265 seemed to max out around that point.

If you're worried about the warranty then you might have to have the techs at Toyota install the lift. Might wanna check with them. I bought my truck used so the only warranty I got was the extended warranty and it still covers my suspension after the lift however, it does not cover the aftermarket parts. But my sway bar, LCA's, cv, etc are all still covered

Good to know! I bought an extended warranty with my truck through my bank cause it was cheaper and the truck is used and my LCA ball joints went out along with my UCA ones. I replaced my UCA ball joints myself cause they're the LR uca's and don't think they'd be covered, but I'm gonna get my truck in the shop soon to have the lowers replaced. I looked at going aftermarket but fuck me, the only one's I found are $1600!

Dang! Well I can't remember the warranty exactly but I do seem to recall with the extended warranty they said I could lift just don't go over 3. As the dealer offers a 3" spacer lift for like $900, but I knew better..;)

Crazy that the dealer would offer a spacer lift when those are about 10x more likely to fuck up suspension parts over a lift that replaces the factory shocks and coils

Exactly! I see this as more of a suspension hazard vs new coils and shocks. I mean, if this is on a truck that will never see off-roading and just a normal on-road driven truck then I guess it's not THAT bad. Either way I would never go with spacers just because of what they can do and how rough they can make the ride.

Not to mention, you hit a speedbump hard enough you can crack the spacer. Seen it happen before

Yeah, there were a few Tacoma's on a lot nearby that had spacer lifts, again a $900 option

$900! You can choose from WAY better lift options than a spacer!

Spacer install should only take like 10 minutes each. Take the tire off, jack up the axle, undo the 3 bolts, downjack the axle to leave enough room to install the spacer and then jack it back up, bolt it, put tire back on. That's rediculous to charge that much and get away with it.

Haha I know. I looked into it cause on the paper it just says 3" lift for $900. Thinking hey that's a good price until I saw what it was.

I made the lift a total research project. I think OME and Toytec make a quality product, but I ended up going with Icon. If you go too cheap you will not be happy. There is a ton of info on this site.

I went with a toytec kit and am happy with it for what it is but I eventually want to get some maxtrac spindles and then eventually swap my shocks and coils out with king coil overs. I like Icon but all the research I did said they are great and smooth off road but tend to ride a little on the stiff side on road so I think I'm gonna go with kings
