May be a dumb question, but can you cut one end of a coil spring (right before it starts transitioning to flat at the bottom) in order to fit onto a front strut like a Bilstein 5100 (similar to the stock shock)?

Im curious too cuz dsm has king coils for $65 amd would be a major upgrade on the cheap over my OR stock coils.

Like how coil over spring and ground flat on both ends but 5100's need one end that is not flat. Could u simple cut off the flat part and use with ome or billies

I dont see why it wouldnt work, just get the right spring rating and realize ur gonna lose a half inch or so of length when u clip it.

Obviously, but my thinking was kings would be better springs than say eibach and be at half the price roughly.

Well reason I ask is I can get Eibach springs (not toytec specific Eibach's) at wholesale cost but not OME's. Not to mention a used pair of standard coil Eibach's are pretty cheap.

Was trying to throw on some stronger springs, but not quite 600lb coils. I don't have any extra weight in the front so the Toytec Eibach 620# coils would be a bit stiff. Just trying to get 3" lift out of the front 5100's. Ended up getting about 2" set on the 2.5" setting.

I guess the only way to tell is measure the slope of the eibach springs near the base, and measure the slope of the 5100 base plate (or just the stock spring) and make sure they are close

Just get 887's and set the 5100's to 0

Really , is it worth saving $50 this way ?

If the out come is the same, why not? Thats a tank of gas, or a night out with the wife, or a window tint. $50 is $50 .

Coils are clipped all the time. Its not a new and revolutionary practice, as long as its not heated, it wont jeopardize the integrity of the steel

Hmm wonder if tundra coils or 4runner coils would work. Just picked up tundra coils for 30$ from the local junkyard, about to find out how they fit / compare.
