Can anyone tell me what the difference is between these two shocks? I know the fox is 0-2" lift, and the icon is 0-3". I know there is a $400-500 price difference too. I'm on a bit of a budget on these front shocks(using it to level lift until I can afford the rear), however, I want the best I can get.

Icons have a 2.5" body compared that particular Fox shock......big difference in performance. Get the icons in non resi if you want to save a few bucks.

No prob.....I have Icon's (non-resi) and out of the box they perform better than the truck can handle.

I just bought the fox 2.0 ifp setup for mine. Very affordable.

What ever you decide Fox or Icon I think you should keep front & back shocks the same Because of the way they are valued

I've got the extended travel.....if you go that route get some UCA's too.

The digressivness is actually in the rebound and not compression so the above descriptions isn't necessarily true. It all really depends on the slow/high speed valving that make it feel "firm" or "soft". Icon has done 10x more R&D on tacomas than any other company.

Also, I run Fox in the rear and they do the job too.....the icons are defenitly smoother though.

What is the downside of not going extended travel?

Its worth the cost of ucas for the extra inch or so of travel. But it will all depend on how you plan to use your truck. Sometimes the extra inch of travel decideds if your truck is stuck or not.

I'm usually on logging roads which are pretty flat, sometimes I need to get over a small tree. Not doing any crawling or crazy off-roading. Just don't have the money for UCA's right now. So my immediate plan was to go with icons front and rear. Level lift front. I'll crank it up more when I get some dakars, tires and UCA's

Fab fours front and rear bumpers, B.A.M.F. weld on rock sliders, softopper, removed mud flaps and D-Badged everything. Icon 2.5 Extended Travel coil-overs, Total Chaos upppers, 2.0 Icon extended travel shocks with the resi's and Dekar Leaf packs.
I would wait and do the Icons. I had the ToyTec Ultimate Lift on my truck and wasn't really satisfied with it. So I went and did what I should have done in the first place and put Icon 2.5 extended travel non resi coil-overs with Total Chaos uppers in the front. (Which like everyone will tell you, you need to have some kind of after market UCA) In the rear I kept the Dakar leaf pack and went with an Icon 2.0 extended travel shock with the resi's.

Icon works great on the street, equal to or better than stock imo.
