I'm having a hard time deciding between fi I should buy a coilover kit or buy the parts individually, for this example ill use the most expensive coilover kit I could find...

"FOX Ultimate suspension for 05+ Tacoma"

    http://toyteclifts.3dcartstores.com/FOX-Ultimate-suspension-for-05-Tacoma_p_1226.html

for a low price of $3,300 you could own

-***FOX Front 880-06-418 extended length front Coilovers with DSC (Duel Speed Compression)
    (1894.95 at weboffroad.com and shockwarehouse.com)

-***(2) FOX 982-02-366 2.0" Factory Series Reservoir Rear Shocks with CD Adjust ($379.95 at xloffroad.com, $349 at allprooffroad.com)

    -Differential Drop Kit (about $30)

    -ToyTec Progressive Leaf Pack
    (209.99 on bilsteinlifts.com)

    -Rear Axle degree Shims
(go for about $30 as well)

-TC 96504 Total Chaos Uniball upper control arms
    (684.55 at wheelersoffroad.com and Amazon)

    So I did some math...

    3,299.99
    -1894.95
-349 x2 (I did this because the sites I went to only said "shock" not "shocks")
    -30
    -30
    -684.55
    -209.99

That's -247.5, so all the parts bought separately would equal out to 3547.49, now keep in mind that I didn't look super hard for the best prices for the parts, so if you find better prices please post them...

Is a coilover kit worth the expense? I would say yes, not to mention that I didn't add shipping expences.

So that's my writeup xD any questions comments concerns etc. post em.

Make it easy on yourself and send a PM to DSM and SDHQ (in vendors section).....have them price you out a package. Diff drop and axel shims aren't needed.

    FRONT
    Coilovers and UCA's
    REAR
    AAL and Rear shocks

Are you sure? Won't the lift cause excessive wear on those components?

And I ask because this is my first suspension kit iv ever done, and I'd rather not walk into this blindfolded, not knowing what I need. Which I'm catching up on through the suspension forms

Keep reading.....the search function here is awesome because everything has been covered 1,058,274 times (or at least close to that number) LOL

Most of us here know more about our trucks than "Toyota certified mechanics" and you soon will too, if you choose.

is DSC (Dual Speed Compression) a good investment?

    http://toyteclifts.3dcartstores.com/FOX-Ultimate-suspension-for-05-Tacoma_p_1226.html

"Duel Speed Compression (DSC) adjuster provides added control and comfort tuning for on-road use while also offering more aggressive damping for use off-road. The adjuster allows for precise suspension tuning with the simple twist of two clearly defined knobs: No tools and no mess, just a way to easily fine-tune your suspension to best suit your needs in any conditions. The DSC increases both low and high-speed compression levels up to 25%, allowing you to maximize small bump compliance and traction while still having the extra damping required for big hits."

Vince hooked me up, I've had no negative issues and my suspension performs great, I may upgrade it along the way but I push my truck fairly hard.

Let me catch whoevers reading this up to speed.

I priced out both SDHQ and DSM.
Both were very helpful, SDHQ stands behind ICONS mostly, DSM lets you make your own suspension kit

    SDHQ first:
Icon Non-resi Ext. travel Coilovers $1299.95
    (FOX 2.5 IFP Coilovers 1294.95)

Icon or Camburg Uniball UCA $699.95
(No other option for that individually, using price from DSM
    Camburg 1.25” Uni-Ball UCA’s $664.96)

    Icon 3-leaf AAL $214.95
(No other option, using DSM pricing for Icon 3-Leaf Progressive Mini-pack AAL $199.99)

Icon 2.5" resi rear shocks. $719.95
    (FOX Piggyback Shock $899.95)

    Grand Total: $2934.80
    (DSM DIY kit $3059.85)

    DSM:
FOX 2.5" IFP Ext. Travel Coilover (pair) $1165.45
(ICON 2.5" IFP Extended Travel Coilover (pair) $1199.95)

    Total Chaos Uni-Ball UCA's $684.55
    (ICON Uni-Ball UCA’s $699.95)

    Icon 3-Leaf Progressive Mini-pack AAL $199.99
(compared to ICON AAL from SDHQ for $214.95)

FOX Factory Series 2.0 Rem. Res. Shocks 1.5-2" Lift (pair) $512.90
(ICON 2.5 Remote Res. Shocks (pair) $979.90) (keep in mind these are 2.5's)

    Grand Total: $2832.89
    (Icon package grand total $3079.79)

everything else in () are DSM prices for the same kit on SDHQ and vice versa

if you want to build your own kit and you don't care if all the parts aren't from the same manufacturer then DSM is your best bet, if your a ICON fan then SDHQ is where you want to go, they have a large selection and pretty much every ICON suspension part you could think of.

We can do Fox or King, We just stand behind Icon more since the ride is better with the Mid travel stuff. Also, prices above do not include TW discount from us on the Icon stuff.

Which is why I went with icon through SDHQ, plus Cince is all over the boards and they are willing to resolve issues quickly, only personal peril is that I wish I would of known how much I'd be using my truck offroad, probably would have went CDC but that's my fault, then again I probably take it out way more because of the suspension and trying to test my trucks ability now

What terrain are you running? The 2.0 rear shocks should be plenty unless your running fast speed whoops where the shock is cycling through isn't full ROM at fairly high speeds. Could be overkill for you? If you're a weekend warrior and want a softer street ride ask if DSM still does they're free "softer" re-valve for Icons? And what's total shipping going to run you?

On a side note SDHQ's customer service is second to none so your in win win situation man.

I run a lot of different stuff, slow big rocks and logs and muddy trails, fast dry river rock embedded roads/ trails 10" half submerged rocks, and rocky desert type terrain. I don't seem to be bottoming out really, well a couple times, more just need softer all around but still firm on road and right before bottom out, which is why I'm leaning towards some kind of adjustable dampening shock.
