I will be installing the wheelers 1.5 prorgressive AAL either this weekend or next weekend. The description says that I can use it with or without the overload. I have a 2003 double cab with camper and stock spare on the truck. Dont really carry that much heavy gear just during the summer when I go fishing and Ill be towing a boat maybe 2 times a month during that time.

Would you guys recommend keeping the overload or just getting rid of it? Interested in opinions on ride quality with and without it and height.

I left mine in but it did give me almost 2" of lift in back. are you lifting the front? if you are not you will be ass high. I will post a pic of mine with no lift in the front.

Get rid of it. My truck handles 500-600 lbs no problem without it.

I have a progressive aal and I left my overload in. I doubt the overload has an effect on ride quality because it only comes into play when the leaf flexes enough, not during normal driving.

Yes, I'm lifting the front 2.5. I prefer for it to sit leveled, but I don't mind a little rake. Just don't want the front to sit higher than the rear.

I don't know how the aal will be on a first gen but on a second gen 1.5" in back was about 1/2" higher than the front lifted 2.5"

You need to break out a tape measure and see where your rear is now compared to your front. Add 2.5 to the front and see how high you want the rear lifted.

That's a great idea. I'll do that tomorrow before I start taking my suspension off.

Havent tried any higher yet because I havent had a need. Im sure it would be able to handle more.

I have also towed a small fiberglass boat with no problem.

For normal driving conditions (i.e., not a lot of axle flexing), the overload leaf essentially acts as a 1/2" lift block, so it comes down to whether or not you want that added 1/2" of lift in back. The ride quality isn't much different with or without the overload, although I've noticed the added 1/2" of lift can create a slight axle wrap feel during braking.

Take the overload out! I have the same setup and and after running the progressive AAL w/ the overload i ended up removing it. The overload is designed to mate with a larger leaf so when your springs go into negative arc, it supports them. If you have the AAL pack in there and bottom out, the overload actually contacts the second or third leaf from the bottom, creating a sharp impact that can cause a failure. Just my $.02

Don't mean to revive the thread, but you seem knowledgeable in this area. I have bilsteins 5100 all around, OME 885 coils up front with bilsteins set at .0. I added the Wheeler's 1.5 Progressive AAL's in the rear and removed the overload. I'm noticing that my back sags a little lower than the front, probably about half inch (assuming due to the overload being removed). How can I level out my truck? I don't really want to put my overload back in due to the reasons you stated above.

I drive a 15' Double Cab Short Bed tacoma.

    Thanks!

if your set at 0 up front already you would either need to put a smaller coil or put the over load back in. you could also add blocks.

Put the overload in. I've been running the Wheeler's progressive AAL in my 2+1 stock pack for over two years with the overload and I've had zero issues. I regularly haul ~1000lbs of landscaping materials in the summers and it handles very well.

    Just under 1000lb last weekend.
