Airbags and cold weather

Hello TW peeps,

I live in Minnesota and, like all of you probably assume, it get's effing cold here in the winter. Do any of you have issues with installed airbags on your trucks (other than the same sort of inflation issues that go with tires in cold)?

I'm close to Ottawa Canada and I'm going on my 3rd yr with firestone airbags. I carry my snowmobile on my truck when I go ridding (inflate to 55 PSI when loaded, 5 unloaded) and often drive about 60 miles on rough forestry roads. No issues with the airbags as of yet. I usually check them every 3 weeks and they hold their pressure pretty well. It does vary with temperature though.

FYI, it was -28 C (or -18 F for you) here this morning.

 

Thanks for the perspective...yeah, routinely it's -23 C to -12 C here in the winter here, not to mention when I go north it's colder.

Also...when you put the Firestones in, did you put cradles in or do the regular install?

Regular install. Although I didn't hear of anybody have problems with the cradles, I'm afraid that they could eventually fill with ice at some point and break something.

 

great thought...i hadn't thought of them filling with ice/snow. good call.
