Taco Lean, top plate spacer necessary with 5100s?

    5100's all around, fronts at 1.75". TSB leaf pack + Toytec TSB AAL
    I dont think the 5100s are meant to be used as coil overs as far as their adjustability when used with the stock springs (however I'm certainly not an expert, maybe someone can chime in and correct me if I'm wrong). What I mean is that I dont think the 5100s are typically run using different settings. For the people that used the stock coils with the 5100s, the taco lean is still there, therefore the change to the 5100s did nothing to help the lean. So in this case, the 1/4" top plate spacer is necessary.

    I've not researched any other setup than running stock coils, so I can't comment on any other setup.

    It's either use the top plate spacer for stock shocks or with 5100s on any setting with stock coils OR buy fully adjustable coilovers where you can adj for the lean without using spacer.

    My question about this concerns the use of fully adjustable coiovers...Will tightening one side up more to get rid of lean make the preload different enough to matter or feel like one side stiffer than the other? And when wheeling would it affect performance enough to make truck act wierd from one side being softer than the other?

    No. Most people preload the driver side by turning the collers a bit more than the passenger side to even the truck out. That little bit of preload isnt going to be noticable.

    Assuming they have the coils on the proper side... if people have adjusted the 5100's differently to correct the lean, and they still have a leaning problem..... then I'd start investigating for other problems and perhaps even in the rear suspension.

    Ironically (for instance), if something in the rear isn't working...like a frozen shackle that can't pivot properly..... can actually pitch the opposite corner.

    Adjusting the 5100's differently isn't any big deal (as CHris mentioned), it really won't be noticable.

    Right, but If I'm not mistaken, Chris is referring to the 5100s used in a fully adjustable coilover setup (i.e. The Toytec ultimate lift kit). Not with the 0", .85", 1.75", and 2.5" settings.

    Exactly. Im talking about the ones with the threaded collers. FWIW, if one side is off by an inch, you could always move the adjusting clip to the next level to account for the difference....:)
