UCA's and downtravel

So a local offroad shop said they lift Tacoma's all the time. He said that for a 1.75" lift (i.e. Billy 5100s @1.75") that the stock UCAs will do just fine. He verified this with a dealer in Texas that lifts tacomas and puts them on the lot too... Because of what I've read on here, I find myself a bit sceptical. I was planning on getting them with my lift.

Yes, I've read all on here and TN about how much UCAs will help alignment and whatnot, but I can't help but think that I might as well try to get it aligned before I drop $$$$ on aftermarket UCAs.

So my question is that with 5100s set to 1.75", how much more downtravel would TC UCAs provide me compared to the stock ones? I've read on TW that the stock ones will limit downtravel with a lift, and the TC UCAs will help to recoup some of that. Just looking for some thoughts on this...

Thanks for the help!

They will only help down travle if you have shocks with a longer stroke. THe 5100's are an OEM replacement, therefore, they will limit the amount of travle to the same amount the stock shocks gave, regardless of UCA's used.

Interesting. So with the 5100's, aftermarket UCAs will only help for alignment purposes... I thought the stock UCAs were the first limiting factor because they hit the spring or something along those lines...

The shocks limit the droop. If useing longer shocks, or shocks with more travel, THEN the upper ball joint becomes the limiting factor.
