Spacers- 5100s

ok im new to suspension lifts so help me out, a spacer basically just bolts to the top of the strut making it "longer" causing lift, but from what i hear hurting your ball joints, so wut exactly do 5100s do different to not impact ball joints?

 

They preload the spring so it "sags" less with the weight of the truck which equals lift. But you have not elonged the strut assembly so it doesn't smack your balls.

 

yes smacking balls is not good, not good at all.

 

There are two different types of spacers.

There are spacers that go into the Coil assembly and require compressing the coil to install it.

THere are spacers that install ontop the coil assembly - no coil compression needed.

The spacers that can cause balljoint failure - are the spacers that install ONTOP the assembly. A lot of people install 1/4" spacers (1/2" lift) spacers ontop the coil assembly to correct a lean problem or leveling purposes. I wouldn't install anything larger than 1/4" thick spacer ontop the coil assembly.

The coils that go INSIDE the assembly are easier on the balljoints than the other spacer types.
