Can someone point me to where Aaron had the write up of his DB removal? Or any DB removal write up....

 

He had some pictars here but I'd go to his build thread. I looked at mine a few weeks ago and whoever installed the DBon my truck only took out a small piece of the DB. If I ever go that route it will be an easy surgery.

No way, way too much monies. I texted Mark to see how his SAS was going and he didn't even answer. That build loses me at the 10k just in axles. Youre better off just buying someone's completed or nearly completed buggy or truggy

 

For mpg purposes or you getting rid of the truck?

 

I looked through his build thread and I couldn't find all of the pictures. Is the only thing I'll have to do is weld in a new crossmember? Or is there other things that will need welded back? I had it installed so I could have someone else responsible for cutting the crossmember if something went wrong haha. My buddy just fabbed up a new crossmember for his Jeep TJ so I'm sure he could just weld a piece of steel back in.

I'm keeping the truck. This is just an idea at the moment. I love the look of my truck, but my transmission slips every so often, I know my driveshaft is at a terrible angle, and I wouldn't mind getting power and MPG's back. I drive 100 miles each way back and forth to school about every weekend. I go through a tank just going back and forth to school even if I don't drive around town while I'm home. If I lower it, I'll either keep it for a long time and save for a supercharger. Or I'll wait till I graduate and get a good, steady job and sell it. I'd really like to get a first gen tundra and restore it. Put a 5.7 in it and everything else that goes with a motor swap, new paint, etc. My grandad had a 2002 tundra and dad had a 2004 tundra that he passed down to my grandad when he bought a new truck. It was the first truck I learned how to drive and I've always loved them.

 

Why not put in on 33's? Lots of guys are getting 18+ mpg' on 33's. Heck when it was warmer I was averaging almost 19mpg on 35's. I have no driveline issues or drive shaft angle issues. Truck rides better than it did on a 3" lift. I would really reconsidered maker it more functional than tearing the lift off and all the fab work to make it right..just a thought!

 

That's what I recommended too. Get rid of the heavy mt tires and go to a 33" at tire. I was getting 17-18 with 33's.

I think your first step is to take a look at your xmember and see how hacked it really is to determine how much fab work you need. Aaron boxed in a whole new xmember.
Also, start collecting parts. Stock spindles, coilovers and rear shocks unless you plan on buying everything to go LT up front but you will still need stock spindles.

Edit: I didn't read your other reply until after I posted but I don't think a tundra will solve your gas issue. If these are your thoughts and you drive that much, sell it and make some money or buy a cheap DD like an older corolla that get 30mpgs if this truck is paid off. After you graduate and get a better job making money then start a project tundra. At least then you will still have a DD cause older corollas don't die easily
