wheel bearings

Factory recommended repacking heavy or light duty use is every 24 months or 30k miles, which ever comes first. Am I shortening the life of my bearings by ignoring this? 2003 2.0L 5sp 41k miles. Florida, no off road.

Probably not, but it is factory recommended for a reason. My 02 V6 4x4 had sealed wheel bearings that couldn't be repacked.

 

What's your factory recommended replacement frequency? Tks.

 

They don't need replaced until they're showing signs of damage. I sold that truck. With almost 130k miles on the odometer, I think the wheel bearings were the originals.

 

I wish mine were as simple.

 

I would like to hear from other tacoma owners regarding this maintenance frequency. Does anyone actually do this every 30k miles? Has anyone not and been sorry?

 

I didn't know you could pack wheel bearings on a Tacoma. There is nothing in the owner's manual about it. I thought they were sealed bearings? I could be wrong. It's been known to happen.

 

Could be, The maintenance book says to lubricate them every 30k or 24 months. I asked at the service dept and I was told that lubricate means clean and repack. But it would not be the first time a service dept gave me wrong info. I've looked and I see no lub points. Hmmmmm
