Does anyone know the difference between the "TRD sport package" vs. the "TRD off-road package" suspension?

The shocks are universal. The Front springs on the Off Road are progressive.

    That's the only difference.

No thats not the only difference girls; TRD off road= electronic locker AND limited slip differential with traction control (sport does have LSD), progressive springs, bfgoodrich rugged trail 265/70 r 16.

The sport has the hoodscoop (not functional in anyway), body colored bumpers and front valance instead of the Off road's chrome. 4x4 models come w/ the slightly bigger skid plate on sport and off road versions.

One nice thing about the off road 2wd is once you engage the elocker the ABS brakes cut out along with traction control which allows you to break hella faster when in the dirt.

If you simply disengage traction control which engages the limited slip diff, the traction control will come into full effect after 30mph and if you REALLY get on the gas and attempt sliding the truck around under 30mph the stupid electronic nannies prevent from doing so. It's quite tempermental

    Your best bet....

Call the Toyota dealer parts department and ask them for part numbers between the two.

Everything is the same except the sway bar. The TRD Sport has a larger sway bar.

Forgot about the larger sway bar on the Sport. Sport has linear coils and the Off Road still has progressive though. Not the same.

That link doesnt define anything, other than they dont know. The Sport and Off Road both have the progressive rate springs. To add a little validation, Brianr has a TRD Sprot 4 dorr, and PackerfanXD has a 4 door TRD Off Road, and they both have the same coils....well...they did, Packerfan has OME's now. ;)

Interesting......For the 2009 modles, there is no mention of the sway bar being different diameter. I wonder if they are all the same now? For somereason, the TRD Off Road says "Off-road-tuned suspension with Bilstein® shocks" and the TRD Sport says "Sport suspension with Bilstein® shocks", yet they both use the same part numbers???

Having also taken apart both front ends, I'm disagreeing with you. The Sport coils do not taper at the bottom like the Off Road coils do.

I just skimed it, But I see now. I was going off of part numbers, not looks. It would make sense for them to be different, but I never found anything leading to that conclusion until now.

Ok....Toyota of Dallas is saying the springs are the same from Off road to SPort. The only springs that are different are from 4 door, to Ext. cab...to Reg cab.....The mystery continues.

    Mystery? What mystery?

The coils are different for the CAB's due to weight differences.

I remember on the 1st gen trucks, you could get stock OEM coils off a double cab and install them on a Reg Cab and you'd get like 1" of lift.

I know that, but Johncon is saying that they are different from TRD Sport to TRD Off Road. Example, a 4 door Sport has different springs than a 4 door Off Road. He is saying the Off Road has Progressive springs and the Sport doesnt. All the springs I have seen have looked the same, and every Toyota dealer I have called even lists the same spring part numbers. He said the Springs are smaller on the bottom on the Off Roads, but if this is the case, they wouldnt fit the same shock as the sport, yet they do........oh well....Im gonna go swimming. :p

I've seen the ones that come on the Sport first hand, off the vehicle, and they are clearly wound different from the off-road springs. I have a set of the Off-Road springs and the windings are tighter (not smaller) at the top then at the bottom. The Sport model springs are not.

The Off-Road springs also have a wrap around the top windings. I believe this is to prevent contact when the coil comes in contact with its self due to the higher winding rate.
