Truck all over the road,,,anyone else have this prob

Truck all over the road,,,anyone else have this prob

Ok so when i am driving down the road or freeway the tacoma likes to wonder around in the lanes,,, the steering wheel moves alot,,, it feels like i am driving in the wind but there is none...

I have 265/75/r16 load E tires air at 45psi and a daystar struct spacer... could that cause a problem...

Maybe your tires need to be balanced. Did you have that done when you added the spacers??

I think that's a problem with your alignment.

I'm not an alignment specialist by any means, but I think it has to do with your caster.

Go google alignments and see if that sounds like your problem, and bring it in for an alignment.

sounds like alignment issues. Not enough caster due to the lift.

My truck does this every time I drink!

On a serious note just wondering but do you feel this behind semis or is it all the time cas the drag from them will pull you around alot!

As far a alignment it just got done,,, i did the alignment the day after i installed the strut spacer.... sometime last week,,, i thinking its the strut spacer causing it to walk but i really dont know

Yeah I thought my Tacoma wandered a bit even the day I got it before I did any lifting or mods. Seems to be a lack of caster issue. Some corrective UCA's will fix that or you need to tell the shop who aligned your truck to add some more caster. I believe somewhere around 2 is appropriate but my trucks is running 4 due to my UCA's. That's excessive but it definitely doesn't wander now.

I would have the alignment adjusted with the Camber and Toe set to zero and the Caster set to 2.0-2.4 degrees. Usually wandering problems are caused by a lack of caster which is common when our trucks are lifted. As others have said you might also want to drop your front tire pressure a few pounds to flatten the tire contact patch. Keep in mind that Toyota has broad alignment specs, so just because it is "within spec" does not mean that you won't have tire wear or drive ability issues.

mine was doing that after i lifted/tires & had the tires @ 45psi now I run them @ 36psi and its fine but gas mileage is down abit but zero wandering

A lot of shops will call your alignment done even though it's way out of spec (just close as they could get.. always get a printout

Another thing to consider, certain tires can also lead to an increased feeling of wandering. I've regularly read in tire tests that typically a wider tire will try to track when a vehicle hits a bump, expansion joint, or other inconsistency in roads but this seems to be with tires that are a 12.50 or wider. I know around where I live the roads get a nice groove down them from all the studded tires and chains that people run through the winter and my truck will tend to pull around in them as well.

My truck has done this since new...before and after the lift. Like already mentioned, the grooves in the road from tire chains really effect these trucks. I tend to hug the center line, and the truck always wants to pull to the left. When I had a tech drive to duplicate the problem, he drove closer to the shoulder which caused the truck to pull to the right. I've also had problems while tracking in these groves when applying the brakes...the truck pulls to one side or the other. My truck has had the alignment done a couple times. I've also noticed on roads that were freshly paved with no ruts, the truck tracked straight.
