Timbren's Installed

questions have been posted about them and no one seems to have them?
so i started off by doing a lot of googeling
and think they will work great for me
i have a 5 lugger and no TBS available for springs, but i love the "gentleman's ride"

think of them as a air bag spring helper but not the trouble of airbags

several of the camping/trailer towing sites had post about how they work great
no tail end drag, helps prevent towing wobble, improves cornering.
with airbags you need to have access to a compressor to inflate and deflate when needed, and worry about a leak or torn bag.
these just replace the rear "bump stops"

think of them as a "longer extended variable resistance bump stop helper springs" .
i have mine set for 1 inch clearance BUT
the nice thing about them is not the classic "one size fits all"

if you have a work truck you might need better help, using a snow blade, well if the standard settings don't work for you , you can install a shim, or contact the company and they can replace the rubbers with different types !they offer good tech support and want to make you satisfied with your suspension. i had no troubles but i did call the timbren help number and they said they will work with you to get the ride right and should be under warranty ! ( and it is a "life of the installed truck so with a tacoma that could be a long time)

i ordered mine from

http://www.truckspring.com/timbren_285.html

was quite happy with the service and got free shipping and no taxes in 5 business days ;-D

this is part of the install and you can see it is pretty easy to do, just remove rear bump stops and bolt up the timbren's and check the clearance

they say jack up the body for spring clearance and remove the wheel, BUT i had room so didn't have to do either ! and the original check is without the truck loaded.

this is a pic of the factory bump stop ( hard rubber, 4 inches from the bottom of the rubber to the top of the axle)

this is a pic of the timbren's installed and you can see they are going to help a lot sooner than the bump stop on a load. but not interfere with normal driving

there is no clearance trouble on the brake lines, just the camera angle
and yes they are hollow

it has not affected my normal driving ! still the good ride!
and in a few days it will get a workout when i haul 90 ft of wooden fence material for a friend

so after that load i will add to this post and talk about the ride and amount of sag and sway if any ok?

NOTE: they do make front bump stops also, and most of the people with snow blades use them , so might be a answer for heavy front bumpers and such?

I have had my rear Timbrens installed for about 4 or 5 months. I wasn't too keen on doing the suspension TSB because I love the way my truck rides. I think they work wonderfully.

YEP THEY WORK GREAT

ok a bit over 100 of the fencing material 6 ft and all green wood ( wet)
and 24 2x4 x8
and the guy at lowels said it was too much !

no problems, no bottom out at all ! and the last few miles are on a wiggely up hill downhill road that is paved! the only thing i noted was stopping distance was just a bit longer! (load weight)

now i measured the rear bumper loaded and unloaded
and there was a 2 inch difference ! remember there is a 1 inch space before the timbren's even make contact with the axle.
and even with that load it was still a "gentleman's ride"

so for a lot of folks like me that do occasional hauling and don't want a harsh ride i would say this is a winner !

this is a shot from his driveway i backed in and slight downhill on the front !

www.wheelersoffroad.com has the timbrens also. I think like 150 for front or rear.

That could come in handy if I pick up the trailer sailer I've had an eye on. Thanks Phantom!

that is a good find at that price ( note they don't show a 5 lugger)

so i figured a bit of loyalty with trucksprings, and i even got a scratch pad and pen in the box ;-D
so it cost me a few bucks extra, i'll just cut back on my lobster and wine night for a week or two
Oh i'm not trying to knock one company over the other. Besides its only a few dollar difference between the two. Just thought i would throw out some other good places to find them so people have options. I like wheelers and have had no complaints about their customer service.

I've heard good things about them but they don't seem to care about us poor 2WD 5 luggers.

tacoma man

think you will really like them, i used locktit when i installed. and it even helps out on body roll. i am a big fan of these and think they should be stock on the tacoma to begin with ! now i have a truck that can haul like a truck but still have a softer ride.

NOTE for you 6 luggers

the bump stops are different (on the rear axle)but the idea is the same with the 1 inch space ! and if you find you can't make that measurement or need a bit more travel, just call them and they will send shorter rubbers or hard rubber spacers for free. you can call them up and if you are lifted talk to them and get what you need the first time
