    Hello,

My 2003 DC Prerunner (non-TRD) has about 95,000 miles on her, and I'm planning on replacing the torn up OEM shccks with 5100's all around. I don't plan on lifting her, or even replacing the OEM wheel/tire setup. Too old for that. HAHA. Just looking for a good handling, semi-civil ride quality. Anyone have feedback on leaving their front 5100s at stock height? Less preload should be a smoother ride correct? The 5100's are cheaper than HD replacements, which is a plus for me, even though they are backordered right now.

Hmm never heard of anyone doing this? I would think the 5100's would be good cause they have better valving.

it will ride better than your OEM setup at stock height because it will be more solid and abosorb the bumps better.

It would be great but I don't think you need to spend that much to get a nice stock, no-lift replacement. It certainly doesn't sound like you need to pay extra for heavy duty or height adjustment capability.

Yeah, see that's my dilemma. I don't offroad but I tow pretty often and load motorcycles/cement/house stuff etc in it. Lucikly for me I own a truck so it's always being used as a mule by friends, family, etc. I want a stiffer ride for the utility, not for offroading.

My gut reaction was to get the Bilstein HD's for more "oomf".. but they are actually MORE than the 5100's. And I could get some cheap monroe's or the like for a cheap stock like swap, but I figure since I'm swapping them out, might was well upgrade a little.

The SPRINGS are responsible for the stiffness of the ride under loading. The shocks help smooth it out.

The shocks will make it ride a bit nicer- but if you need loading capacity/weight handling. You need to look at new springs.
