Lift quote, am I getting ripped?

I just got a quote to get my Ready lift strut spacer kit installed, plus 2 rear end shocks and 2 front end struts.

They guy said it would take about 6hrs @ $90 an hour. The $90 an hour is fine, but 6 hours?! really?

Plus I need an alignment done after, which he said was $160. Taxes, everything said and done he was thinking around $800. That seems pretty steep for this type of lift.

edit - this is purely the labour price, I have all the parts already.

 

I've never tried anything this big and don't have anywhere to attempt it or all the tools. There is no garage at the place I currently rent up here.

 

Maybe the mechanics are going to do a circle-jerk while working on your truck. That would make it take longer.

I'd get a quote elsewhere. That does seem a bit high.

 

Another option is getting together a wrench meet and have one of the TW guys install your lift. You would provide the beer of course.

 

yea, his explanation was that they take longer to make sure that all the lines aren't stretched, blah blah so that nothing breaks, where as other shops just slap it together without checking.

it should be closer to like 400 bucks...I got an alignment at the dealer for $75

edit, you could change the rear shocks yourself and save a few bucks, plus if you dont have the tools for it..you should..so instead of paying those jerks to do it, buy a few wrenches and git'er done

 

I will keep calling around. It sucks big time though. In Fort McMurray here, everything is expensive because this place is some what remote. Shop labour here is around $150/hr.

Edmonton is 4hrs away from me, I go there when I can and labour rates are around $90/hour. Its just hard to find a good place, make the appointment and make sure I can actually be there for it.

 

Schwabs did my allignment for $55 and my buddy owns a shop so he didnt charge me laybor and it took about 5 hours from time I dropped it off to picking it up.

 

Anyone in Fort McMurray wanna help install my lift for a couple flats of beer?

I just watched the install video on their website...looks like something I would get half way through then be stuck. Plus I have shocks and struts to do on top of that.

 

I hope you have a good grip on your ankles 'cause that's gonna hurt. The dealership charges $100 for an alignment and that's the top of the spectrum.

 

Drive it to my house, I'll do it for $100 and you'll still save $200

I paid $267.00 out the door at Concord Toyota for Eibach coils and Bilstein 5100's installed on all 4 corners, including an alignment.

I like the idea of a Toyota suspension tech dialing everything in for me.
