Jacks

I was at AutoZone yesterday picking up some Hellas for behind my grill and I got to looking at the hydraulic jacks. I almost bought one but I was afraid that the max lift was not high enough to raise my truck. I am getting 5100's installed tomorrow and wanted to know if a standard hydraulic jack will lift my truck enough to do some work, or shold I get a hi-lift?

 

5" to 13.5"

 

i got a big orange 2.5 ton jack from harbor freight.
i think it goes up to 18" i think

 

I have the same one. Had it for years..Works great and only paid $30 for it at a sidewalk sale

It was starting to not lift all the way up recently (only about 3/4 of the way) so I Added some brake fluid to the piston and bam like new again.

 

do you know what the max lift is on it?

 

Not sure on mine but If I lift it from the rear diff, it lifts high enough to get the tires 265/75/16's about 4 inches off the ground. Lifting from the front subframe it gets the front tires a few inches off the ground with the suspension uncompressed.

 

So it wouldnt be enough to put the truck on jacks stands to get under it.

 

Yep I can get jack stands under mine. But im on stock suspension. I'm sure with the 5100's you might have to put a block of wood between the truck and jack to get a little more clearance between the tires and the ground when the suspension is uncompressed.
