got a 2010 prerunner. have no intentions of offroading, but like to make my truck look badass. i got a pair of steelcraft nerf bars and installed them. to my surprise they arent meant to be on a truck thats not lifted. (i thought they would hang lower) i am getting front bilstiens set at 1.75 and the rear tsb. should i get a small body lift to seperate the body enough from the frame so it doesnt look so wierd?or should i just take the bars back off?

body lifts make the truck look weird, not the other way around and yes, you should take the setps off.

    nerf bars are pretty...

But yes, body lifts are bad.

If you want more lift, set the 5100s at 2.5. No nerf bars! :p

There are a few people on here with body lifts, just do a search and you'll find pics, I believe one guy has a 3" spacer lift and a 3" body lift = 6" lift doesn't look too bad either and I think he is running 35's. Remember it's your truck, and all we can offer is our opinion, I've already gone through several changes on my truck so it's not like it'll be one and done.

    Got any pictures?

I wouldn't get a body lift just to accomodate the nerfs. If you had to get a body lift, I wouldn't get any higher than 1".

I knew a buddy who had a 3" body lift on a Jeep. He slammed his brakes one day to avoid an accident. The body lift bolts sheered off and his entire cab slid forward. Not to scare you or anything....:D
And not only that - I remember on the 1st gen trucks, we had to make square steal plates to put inbetween the pucks & the bed to distribute the weight a bit or else the pucks would partially dent the cab a bit.

Personally I'd never do a body lift to accomodate nerf bars; the nerf bars would have to be pretty badass for that.

I'd say ditch the nerfs and look into other asthetic mods: Sitoshi grill, wheels/tires, tint windows, tint tail lights, that kind of stuff. There are tons of pictures of those types of mods on here. Look in the 2nd gen forum and search for 'show me your white Tacoma' (or whatever color your truck is), you'll see your truck basically in all kinds of configurations.
