6 inch lift problems?

I'm getting 33 inch tires, I'm leaning towards getting a 3 inch toytec, because I've heard that if I get a 6 inch lift that I will need new gears and my transmission will die out. Is this true?

 

Not so. You will need gears if you go larger than 33's. Lots of us are running 33ish tires, and no issues. Im sure changing gears would help a little to return to the way it drove w/stock wheel set up, but not so much to make it worth spending that kind of money... Just my input...

 

in my opinion, i would get gears, with these gas prices u will get your money back and more, thats if you drive it regularly of course, i was running 35" tires with no gears, and never had a problem, just changed my clutch ones since it was time, on my 2000 taco. and the other problem, was it lost alot of power and got 13-14 mpg, thats why i will be running gears on my next lift, they run around 700 bucks or so plus install, or install them yourself and save money, but on 33"s you will be fine, my buddy is running a 6" lift with 33"s on his and he has an 07 pre runner, he is saying that there is not too much power loss, but he gets 15 mpg average on them. so its all your choice, your tranny will be fine though dont worry about that.

 

So you are saying that if I get new gears my gas mileage will go back up? If so, how many more miles to the gallon will i get?

 

i think he is saying that if you regear......your mileage will more than likely go back to what it was with the stock setup, not necessarily more mileage.

not sure of price(all i know is expensive), but try procomp or fabtech for a 6 inch lift.

 

yes, it will put u back to where it was at stock or close, if its a 2wd then gears only cost around 300 bucks since you only need the rear, its around 800 for the 4x4, the gears will give you the stock power back and u will get almost same gas mileage as u did when it was stock, u can search for a lift of your choice, i personally am getting fab tec soon for mine, they run around 1500 for basic kit and 2500$ for the performance kit, which inludes the front coil overs. most of the kits will be in the same price range or close.

 

i spoke with a buddy of mine that i helped install his pro comp lift on his 07 and he said that he got the 6" pro comp basic kit for 1200$ !! now that a deal.

 

did he get it on the procomp website?

 

im not sure, he told me that i think was 4wheel parts that promised to match or beat anyones prices, and he found some company selling it for that much , so they had to beat thier price thats y it came out that way, look around u can find one for that price or close, ebay has a pro comp 6" lift kit for 1180 plus 150 for shipping. brand new

 

i would not think pro comp would sell for less i would guess they would try to make more money off of their kits

 

Old thread but pro comp is owned by four wheel parts so the fact the can beat that price is not surprising

 

Yeah I have 35s on my 2011 2.7L and I got the 6 ply km2s. So there altitude lighter. If you have a v6 I wouldn't even think about rehearing, but that's crazy you got 14 mpg with 35s!
