How does one know if new shocks/springs are needed?

I'm wondering how do I know when the shocks and springs need to be replaced. When I'm on a semi-smooth highway, the whole truck wobbles a little bit front to back. At lower speeds on a very smooth road it's fine though.

Is there a predetermined number of miles that they should be changed?

lol if its a 95 you need new shocks. when you get new ones compress them and the old ones by hand, you'll see the difference!

You on a budget? there are better shocks, the 5100's are usually recommended for good cost/performance.

 

I could upgrade a little. What do you recommend? Also, are the stock Toyota shocks good?

 

You could go with a higher end bilstein product, several other recommended brands are Fox, King, Icon, I would say give Downsouth motorsports a call, tell them what your needs are, and they will take care of you and give you some options, they also give discounts to members!
