How far does the Taco lean?

I recently bought a set of leaf spring packs from wheelers for my 2000 Extended Cab 2.7 4X4. I bought the 5 leaf packs that are meant to allow more cargo capacity and about 1.5" more ride heigth. I also bought some OME coils for up front to level it out! So I love the way it sits now but I cant help but notice that the drivers side of the bed still seems to "lean" quite noticably. Every once in a while I will park in a spot that seems to help it but most of the time it just looks like its low on that side. When I bought the leafs, wheelers told me that the drivers side leafs were made to be a bit stiffer to help with the problem. Could there be something else going on under there? Sounds like you have the same problem many of the members have, the "Tacoma Lean" Im sure some of the other members will chime in soon, I would help out but Im not very good on that issue. Its nothing to worry about alot of people have this problem. If I remember correctly someone had a previous post on correcting this.

 

I would love to hear about what could be done to correct it! Or if there were any hints as to what more it could be.. I always just thought that the OEM leaf packs were weak, but with new leaf packs I dont know!

 

I had the suspension TSB done on my 08 with the front Bilstein 5100s set at 1.75". The P-side is about a 1/2" higher than the D-side (front and rear). This is driving me Fing nuts and it really sucks 'cause I didn't take any measurements prior to getting any of the suspension work done.

 

It leans on the driver side due to the extra weight..........gas tank. Fill it up and look at it I bet it leans more full then empty. Plus the driver side always has weight in it going down the road.........YOU........so the springs on that side settle a tad bit more.


You can add a slight spacer to your cols to help correct it. I just adjusted my CO's so as they would even out.

 

i have the same setup on my 04 dc.........ome coils up front...wheelers 5 leaf packs out back. mine doesnt have any lean to it yet...........but for you, you can always get a top plate spacer(1/4) from toytec and install it. it should help correct the lean...or get a trim packer for the driver side. you can get it from wheelers or toytec for pretty cheap and it will help correct the lean problem you are having.

 

I make a ton of steel blocks for the street guys to cure this, they are offset. You could use a solid piece of 1/2" material and bolt it to the bottom of the pack on the low side using a longer center pin, it will never want to come out this way.

 

If I add spacer(s) to the D-side to correct this, will i need to re-align?

 

nah, i see no need for a realignment. i dont think it will make anything go out of adjustment............you just mount the spacer under the top of the coil.

 

So I have to disassemble the coil assembly for this?

 

no.....you arent gonna disassemble the coil.....you are gonna take the coil assy loose from the 3 studs on top and the bottom bolt so that you can get the spacer in there. the trim packer/spacer may come with longer studs for you to use, although it may not be necessary. but you will not have to disassemble the coil assembly.
