OME, Eibach and ?
 
I am planning on getting the RHA Bilsteins 5100 shocks for my truck.
Looking for 2.5 - 3 inches. I would like to replace my oem springs with something else. Are the OME and Eibachs my only option?
I have concerns with running the stock springs with the billies. Downward travel the concern

alot of guys are running 885' and 5100's

those are the OME springs. I am wondering about other spring options besides the usual two being OME and Eibach

i was running stock springs on my 5100's for about a year and a half ...with no problems......
and i do alot of wheeling

yeah same here i got about 18k on my billys an stock springs at 2.5in and true 33's....ride isnt bad at all and i wheel my truck :)

At that price range, OME and Eibach would be your best bang for your buck. Eibach's won't quite push you to 3" of lift, they'll be a little short, even with the 5100's set at .85. Toytec makes a kit with a thicker top plate to get you to 3" of lift with 5100's and Eibach coils.

There are other coil options but they include Procomp (which I haven't heard great things about because of the extremely high spring rate) and higher end brands which I wouldn't pair with 5100's since it's kind of a waste to have an expensive coil and a relatively cheap shock.

wheel the stock springs untill you can afford a set of icons,foxs,or kings :) trust me theyll do what you need them too :)

I guess it is going to be OME 885's on the 5100 Ride Height Adjustables set at .85

Why would you set them at .85? They'll give you around 2.5" of lift when set at 0 and the top plate would push you up to 3".

If I stick to that height I should be able to forego new UCA.

God, I hate priorities lol

I am running 265/75r16 so I think I will be ok clearance wise.Question while you are here though. Are the RHA 5100 billies the same as regular 5100. aside from the adjustment features?

If you go with OME 885 coils you should very strongly consider new UCAs. 2.5" of higher and you'll be very hard pressed to get your alignment right, or, if you do, you'll be at the outter limits and it still may not handle well on the highway.

I'm not familiar with RHA 5100 billies, got a link?

Oh, all the 5100 front shocks are ride height adjustable. Toytec makes a threaded collar so you can adjust the ride height without disassembling the coil. Otherwise, you'd need a spring compressor to disassemble the shock assembly in order to move the clip and adjust the height.

If downward travel - aka "droop" - aka how much lower the wheel can go when you drive off a small drop off is your concern, springs will not help.

Downtravel is limited by the total length of the shock, as well as the stock balljoint/spindle connection configuration.

If you want more downtravel, you need an extended length shock and a new upper control arm. You can short that a bit by inserting a small top plate spacer, trading for a bit less uptravel, in order to buy a bit more down travel. Not a bad tradeoff, as long as you increase the size of the bumpstop so that you don't bottom out the shock and blow it out. But you still need a different UCA to avoid the balljoint bind problem.

If you originally meant to say "uptravel" then yes, different springs will get you more uptravel in two separate ways: 1 increased length and 2: increased spring rate so that the same loading won't compress the spring as far.

Just so you know, LT (Metaltech) is having a group buy on Light Racing UCA's that ends today. They're $375 shipped at the group buy rate which is a very significant discount off list. If you're serious about getting new UCA's, you might want to take a look. Like I said though, it ends today...

For whatever reason I thought there were two sets of 5100's
