my sr5 seems low to the ground

****Is the SR5 lower to the ground than the TRD?****

i just got a new 2012 SR5 and when I look at the other tacoma's out there, they look higher off the ground than mine. my truck is a double cab short bed and i think it looks short and fat.
i now want it to look taller and thiner (without buying a different truck).

I chose the SR5 because I felt it drove much smoother than the TRD.
I got the double cab to fit my pittbull. shortbed - because i am use to driving a small car, & factory tow package for my camper trailer.

i just want my truck to look meaner, cooler, and taller....what would i have to do to my truck to accomplish that without changing the smooth ride? (tires, hood scoop, suspension?)

P.S. please be kind... when i purchased, i didn't pay much attention to the differences btw the trucks. I just wanted a blue4x4 however, now... i wanna pimp it out a bit.

 

It may seem lower due to several reasons.

Did you park beside a trd off road or sport?

Does your truck have the tsb springs or just the 3 leaf pack?

Could the truck you were beside be lifted?

My sr5 seems huge compared to my brothers friends trd off road but I have a lift in mine

 

Black wheels and the next size up tire will make your truck look "meaner." that's just my opinion though.

 

To answer what you would have to do you make it look meaner, lift and aggressive tires would do that. I'm not an expert on coils but I have eibachs on 5100 shocks set at .85 and it feels smoother then stock. I also removed my sway bar not sure if that adds smoothness or not but it feels "cushier "

 

I'd guess it's the tires. I believe TRDs come with 265-75-16. My SR5 came with 245-75-16.

 

My 2011 TRD OR sits higher then my moms 05 SR5. Mainly due to bigger tires and the rear leaf TSB.

 

6-lug or 5-lug?

TRD ORs come with 265/70R16, I dont remember the sport tire size.

Did they even make a double cab in 5 lug?

To the op's question, I have OME 885 coils and an add a leaf, and I think it rides better than stock. More truck like, but better. And sitting on 265/75R16s I think it looks tons better than stock.

Stole this from another thread on TW...5 lug DC. I actually saw one in person on the road. Had to do a double take because it looked really off having a DC that low.

they started make NON-prerunner double cabs in 2011, so that could be the reason op's truck sits lower

 

I don't think there's supposed to be a height difference.

Just a new set of tires in a slightly bigger size, or even just the same size but more aggressive tread will make a big difference in looks.

 

there surely is a very noticeable height difference between a prerunner/4x4/6 lug and a non prerunner/5 lug

but if you're talking about trd vs sr5 6 lug, then there shouldn't be one

 

5-lug trucks sit way lower than 6-lug due to the suspension under them...

 

Other then the possibility that trds come with 265 rather then 245 tires that most sr5s come with( mine came with 245)

 

I asked the same question when I bought my SR5! It's a common feeling. I think part of it is just a "grass is greener" complex. Part of it is also the smaller tires. And part is the perspective when you're in the truck. I've seen other trucks on the road that I KNOW are the same height as mine and they look taller.

And with 265 Hankooks, which raises it about 1/2" (alsi switched to OR wheels, no diameter difference)


You can see in my sig that I've added some other stuff to it to make it a bit meaner, but it still doesn't look really tall. A true 3" lift and running 285 tires would really take it to the next level but I'm not up for messing with it that much while under warranty. I might eventually go up 1.75" with billy shocks but nothing extreme.

Be confident that your truck looks taller on the road than you think it does and just enjoy it!

 

They even put the flares on that DC 5 lug. Didn't know the 5 luggers came with flares but guess they kinda have to they way the front bumper is on 2012s?

 

265/70 vs the 245 tire size makes a visual difference. I know there isn't an actual height difference but when I bought mine it had 245's on it and I drove it a few days before they transferred my previous truck's 265's onto the new one. They definitely made it look "bigger".
