Can I put king coils on bilstein shocks?

Hello TW, new here. Just wondering if I can put king coils on bilsteins. I know it may not make much sense but I could buy these used for a great price on bilsteins and upgrade shocks later, when I get some more money. Will this fit?

Short answer is no.

Coil springs for Icon, King and other adjustable coilovers are ground flat on the top and bottom.

The stock springs (and OME 88x) are only ground flat on the top. The bottom is an open coil and the bottom seat of the Bilstein 5100s are designed for that open coil, not a ground flat coil.

Look at the differences of the bottom of the springs.

Toytec makes an that require you to have a ground flat coil.

 

Bit of a zombie thread, but could the bottom just be clipped off? That adaptor hyperlink is no longer workin btw.

 

Here's a link to the 1st gen Coilover kit but I think a second gen would be similar. This one comes with the coils but if you look at the coils you can see they are flat on both ends.

I see that but if u bought coils that were longer than u needed, could u not just clip them to length and get around the adapter? That was my. Real question

As long as it doesn't effect the spring rate. But if your wanting to use the Coilover setup then no matter where you clip the coil it's still not gonna sit flat, unless maybe you grinded them flat, if that's possible. If your gonna use a coil seat like the oem ones or bilstein/ OME, then I think you'd be ok clipping the coil to the proper length.

 

Yeah i just got 5100's and am installing them today, but i have off road springs and if i dont like the ride or want more height with out preloading any more, dsm has king coils on sale for $65 and free shipping any length, diameter, and spring rate, so i thought that would be a good economical alternative.

 

Wow $65 for king coils, are they 650# coils? Sounds like a good deal

Probably get the 2.5" coil for a shock body that's 2.0" (like the billies). If you get a shock body that's 2.5" then you should probably get the 3.0" coil. As for length I think your gonna want somewhere around 13-14 inch length coil with anywhere from 550-700 #'s. The length and spring rate depend on what your wanting. If your gonna add some weight or a lot of weight? How much lift you want? What type of ride your after, on the cushy side or firmer side? Also depends on if your truck is a 1st or 2nd gen.

 

Im a 2nd gen. I dont want it to ride like a car but i dont want it to ride like a jeep either. Id keep it at or below 2.5" so i didnt have to change my ucas. And im gonna build a c channel bumper next month that shouldnt weight more that 50# give or take. I just finish my install and im gonna see how they do for now.

 

I think a 600# coil should be good for you being a second gen. But maybe do some research on those 2nd gen guys and see what they are running. I know the 620# EIBACH coil will give a 1st gen 3" lift and a 2nd gen 1.65" lift. Just some info to base your spring rates off of
