First Tacoma Lift, Input Please!

I just got my '03 Tacoma about a year ago and Iv wanted to throw a lift on it for some time now. Im not looking to turn it into something made for some serious mudding or nuthin, just logging trails to go up fishing. A few guys at work suggested that I get a body lift cause it will give me some extra clearance and allow some larger tires and that I dont really need a suspension lift. A few places I looked at suggested a 3" body lift and that should allow 33" tires. 33" would be about the biggest that I would want to go on my tacoma but I dont wanna have to deal with any type of rubbing.

Any input on suggested lifts and tires would be greatly appreciated!

I say go with the toytec ultimate lift or an OME setup. I would stay away from body lifts that large.

 

Go with a supension lift. Even spacers in the front and blocks in the back would be better than a body lift IMO if you want to do it on the cheap side.

 

If you don't want to spend much, Bilstein 5100s and Toytec AALs are a solid choice. I didnt get the AAL in the back, but most people do. You can set them on 0", 1.5", or 2.5". The ride is great, doesn't feel like you have a lift. I would stay away from Body lifts.

I looked around and found this OME setup but does it include everything Im going to need? Or are there other things I need. I looked at the ultimate tacoma kit they offer with the Bilstein shocks but Id rather not spend the extra $300 on that if I dont have to, but at the same time would it be worth it?

 

put a little extra money up front for the suspension lift, you'll be happier in the long run...

 

Say No to Body Lift!!!
Foro sure go with a good suspension setup, Check out Toyteclifts.
With 5100's at 2.5" lift, you will have to do some trimming to fit 33's. but its doable.

 

If you're gonna lift it, do it right. Definitely no body lifts and try to stay away from spacer lifts and blocks in the back.

Im thinkin about going with the 3" OME suspension lift but I had a question about the different rear lift options

1)ToyTec 2" lift AAL
2)ToyTec 1.5" Block Kit
3)OME Complete Rear Springs

The complete rear is an extra $400 which is a big chunk of the budget and Iv heard good things about the AAL

I want my Tacoma to sit nice and even

Ok looking around again online and found a 5" lift from Tuff Country and was wondering if anyone knew if they were any good. Again Im completely new at all this haha.

Iv seen some comments floating around that 33" tires will most likely rub with a 3" lift and 32" are recommended. I DO NOT want to do any trimming unless its an absolute must. I wanna get the BF Goodrich All-Terrain T/A KO tires in preferably a 33" and want a lift thats not gonna allow them to rub.

Would 3" be plenty? Or should I look more at a 5-6" lift??

The 5" from Tuff Country would be around $1500 for the kit and the 6" from Fabtech for my truck would be $2000

Any suggestions as to which would be better?

Pros/Cons of the Tuff Country and Fabtech?

What size lift is more realistic for the tires I want?

I know if I get the 3" lift I shouldnt have any problems as far as extra crap I have to get involving droppin the diff and whatnot, but what extra stuff would I have to do with the 5-6" lifts?

Do not get the tuff country one, its junk. I would stick with the 3 inch w/ an AAL and just do the minimal amount of trimming required.

 

^^Yep. And If you have/get new wheels that have a backspacing of 4" or 4.25. You wont rub as much, and will have to do maybe slight trimming.

 

if u just want er lifted up a bit for fishing and what not then a 6'' lift seems to me like a little much. a good 3" lift and some 285/75/16 or 265/75/16 would be more then enough. just my 2 cents

 

Id go with the AAL, makes the ride a little stiffer but its nothing intolerable. blocks can cause premature sag of your leaf pack. The OME would be certainly the way to go,the ride from what ive heard is second to none but like ya said 400$ would be a big chunk of the budget. The AAL would suit ya just fine and if ya wanted to go with a new pack down the road you always could.

 

i agree im doing the same thing right now i got the aal but if i dont like im just going to get the new leaf pack. when i get it all installed ill post pics and let you know how the ride feels.
