Lots of articulation is a great way to compensate for no lockers.

"Standard" differential.

Closed and open differential refers to the carrier of the pinions. Too many people with bad terminology around here. Toyota trucks have closed differentials.

The yellow wire mod gives 2009+ models trac in 4lo. Basically turning each axle into a LSD. It would have made this much easier for the OP...if he had a 2009+ Truck

People have been calling non locked, or LS Diffs "Open" for 438 years. I have never told someone the diff was "Open", to have them give me a confused look and not know what I was talking about. "Closed Differential" is more commonly known in math.

OP you should try that first one again in 2WD with Auto LSD, I think it may work better.

His sig says he has a 2006 4WD.

AUTO LSD & TRAC wasn't standard on all Tacomas until 2009. There were some exceptions back to 2005 I hear.

With only open differentials (as opposed to limited slip), and no select-able rear locker, and no electronic/ ABS traction controls... then the best advice was given: REDUCE the air pressure in the tires... off road: 20 psi max/ 10 psi min on the standard tires. When you are under 15 psi, you must avoid speed, sharp turns, sudden braking... The beauty of 4WD is to crawl up and through anything with damage to the truck. 2WDs need momentum...

As Chris said.
A little pressure on the brakes would have switched traction to the other wheel.

Learn brake throttle modulation and you'll be set. I rarely use my rear locker now.

OP, i've heard that on the 06 and 07 models that if you "feather" the e-brake whilst stuck on something like the first video, it will trick your diff and have a locker effect.
Only heard this on trails before, never seen in action. Can anyone verify?

I've heard this also. I've tried it in the past with no luck. Everyone swears it works though.
