Thats kind of odd that you're burning a full quart each oil change. Although I do not have the same engine, I have the 2.7, It shows absolutely no sign of any oil loss after each change @ 8k mile oil change intervals. I'm running Royal Purple 5w-20

Engines burn oil. New, used, doesn't matter. Some burn more, others burn less. Some of it depends on how the engine was broken in. Some of it depends on engine design and operator usage.
    Blue smoke=bad:)

Yes I agree -- break-in! Very important to seat the rings. And yes all engines consume oil.

I have a buddy that races mods and of course works on them. He swears by this method of breaking in new engines. I always thought he was nuts for saying that you need to run a new engine hard to break it in. He will like to hear that he was right on this one. I took the first thousand miles really easy with my truck. I should have romped on it.

I have a 2010 prerunner and for the past few oil changes I have had that issue as well.. I think I am going to try checking it at 3k then change it at 5k to see if there is a huge difference. this oil change I did today I did an additive to the oil .. so I will see if that doesn't help as well

BUCKLE UP! It makes it harder for Aliens to pull you out of your Truck.
I would run a fuel system cleaner through it 1 week before then at oil change run Gunk crankcase cleaner for 5 minutes to maybe free up any sticking piston rings then change the oil out to Mobil 1 0-20 synthetic.

Also replace your PCV valve. High crankcase pressure will force oil past the rings.
