E-Brake Cable Replacement

I'm not yet a Tacoma owner, but have been looking for sometime. Just haven't found the right one. I looked at a '96 extended cab this weekend. It was a nice looking truck over all. Current owners installed a Flowmaster exhaust system which sounded pretty good and had a 3" lift on it with 33" tires. One big drawback is that the previous week the emergency brake cable broke. The guy said it was a cheap part if I could do the work myself. Has anyone ever replaced this cable? Is it a DIY project or something I would need to take into the shop?

Matt

I would consider it a DIY. There is more than one cable however. Did he specify which part was broke?

He didn't...all he said was that the cable had snapped. I saw a few pics in other threads related to this and I kinda got the feeling it's something I could do. I saw one post from a guy that said he just bought some steel cable at Lowes and was going to use that to fix his e-brake. Sounds like it would work but I don't know if I'd be as comfortable using something not manufactured to specifically fix this problem.

Yeah, I would recommend getting the right part. Check out Rockauto.com. They are a vendor here and there is a discount code you can use when you order. I have used them frequently for odds and end parts.
